Historia
The New York Times best-selling novel from Garth Stein - a heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope - a captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life...as only a dog could tell it.

Historia
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

This story is just boring
Revisado: 07-07-14
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I think this story was just dull. I listened to all but the last hour and could go long periods of time without noticing it. The genre and idea could have been good but nothing happens. The girl moves in, they hide someone, the son becomes estranged....but for some reason none of it touched me in any way.
Would you ever listen to anything by Markus Zusak again?
no
Any additional comments?
Don't get all the glowing reviews. There are plenty of other tragedies you can listen to that will be more interesting.

Historia
Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

King is the "king" of audiobooks
Revisado: 10-28-13
Where does Doctor Sleep rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
top 5
What does Will Patton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He is one of the best narrators I have listened to. I am not sure if I have heard anything else he has read.
Any additional comments?
I bounce all over Audible listening to this author and that, this genre and that. The only author that keeps me listening in my driveway after my commute home is Stephen King. I don't know why his stories grip me, but they do.

Could not finish it

What disappointed you about Wash?
The story was just boring. At first I was into it because it felt like a great view into the world of slavery from both viewpoints. That aspect grabbed me immediately because it is just so hard to imagine the horrors of being a slave.
But as the story meandered (and it does lots of that), I just put the headphones down (3/4 of the way through). First the language was very hard for me to follow. Second I expected the story to go somewhere, which it didnt.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Clancy
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
The performance was excellent - Very Much like the Help with multiple character voices.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
boredom

Historia
This modern classic of military history has been called "one of the most important personal accounts of war that I have ever read" by distinguished historian John Keegan. Author E.B. Sledge served with the First Marine Division during World War II, and his first-hand narrative is unsurpassed in its sincerity. Sledge’s experience shows in this fascinating account of two of the most harrowing and pivotal island battles of the Pacific theater.

Finally puts a plot around HBO Series the Pacific
Revisado: 06-29-10
We watched The Pacific series on HBO, which was a bit hard to follow. Of course the series is pretty much based on this book and after listening to it, perhaps we will re-watch the HBO version and follow it much better.
The story is, of course, excellent and riveting. The experience of all soldiers during WW II is beyond a civilian's comprehension, but this book does a better job than others of detailing the true horrors of warfare. I would recommend this listen to all particularly as we near July 4 celebrations to remind all of us the sacrifice so many have made (and continue to make) for those of use enjoying the freedom they provide.

Shocking scenes of battle, unforgettable soldiers, heartbreaking betrayals. In this stunning, fast-paced novel, a ruthless future war unfolds in a 21st century nightmare: Los Angeles is a radioactive ruin; Europe lies bleeding; and Israel has been destroyed with millions slaughtered. A furious America fights to reclaim the devastated Holy Land. The Marines storm ashore; the U.S. Army does battle in a Biblical landscape.

Good book - if a bit dark
Revisado: 06-29-10
Narrator was good and I found the story compelling..if not a bit creepy. The story itself is a bit unsettling probably because one could imagine our current strife in the Middle East unfolding in such a manner. I also found the United States' internal division quite interesting (if not a bit paranoid) in light of our response to the attacks on September 11. I could imagine a similarly amplified response to the tragedies unleashed in this story.
Worth a credit in my humble opinion.
