Historia
Maud Drennan is a dedicated caretaker, but her sunny, capable disposition and snappy quips mask a deep sadness. A tragic childhood event left her in the company of a cast of patron saints who pop in and out of her life like unwelcome tourists. She tries to find solace in her hard work in London...but then she meets the inimitable Mr. Flood. A menace by all accounts, Cathal Flood is a widower living alone in a Gothic Dorset mansion crawling with collector's items and feral cats.

Beautiful descriptive writing, interesting juxtaposed, plot
Revisado: 11-21-24
This is one of those books where the narration really added to my enjoyment of the story as it unfolded. There were some really standout characters that were quirky and poignant at the same time, I enjoyed all the details and embellishments, perhaps a bit more than the actual core story.
I really appreciate the main character had a strong, moral compass as well as an inquisitive mind. A satisfying vacation read.

Historia
Denied a dog, a baby, and even a faithful boyfriend, Cat decides that she needs a snake: a glistening, writhing creature that can be worn like “jewelry, living jewelry.” But when the budding social influencer finally gives in to impulse, buying a Burmese python from a local pet shop, she sets in motion a chain of increasingly dire events that culminates in one of the most memorable denouements in recent fiction, one that ensnares her entire family, from her eco-obsessed parents, Ottilie and Frank, to her frat-boy-turned-husband, Todd.

Compelling story with compelling characters
Revisado: 10-09-24
Throughout the book, there is a subplot of climate change certainly timely. I thought that was important and relevant but what I really liked Were the interwoven stories of a contemporary family, sometimes doing things right and often doing things wrong. The python, the cricket tacos, the descriptions of Florida smelling basically like a swamp all the time all these details added so much dimension to what was going on in the story.

Historia
S.T., a domesticated crow, is a bird of simple pleasures: hanging out with his owner Big Jim, trading insults with Seattle's wild crows (i.e. "those idiots"), and enjoying the finest food humankind has to offer: Cheetos®. Then Big Jim's eyeball falls out of his head, and S.T. starts to think something isn't quite right. Even the slobbering affection of Big Jim's loyal but dim-witted dog, Dennis, fails to cure Big Jim's debilitating malady. S.T. is left with no choice but to abandon his old life and venture out into a wild and frightening new world with his trusty steed Dennis.

Unique plot but…

Just never cared about any of the characters, all humanized animals. Barely finished it, felt like target audience was maybe teenage boys.

I really like the robots
Revisado: 11-18-23
I like the first book in the series better but I have consistently liked the robots. Particularly as an audiobook you have to pay attention with this, because there are a lot of characters and things bounce around but the premise is interesting and there are definitely some plot twists.

Historia
Long based in Chicago, Iliana and her new wife, Anna, decided to create a culinary destination, the Milkweed Inn, located in Michigan’s remote Upper Peninsula, where much of the food served to their guests would be foraged by Regan herself in the surrounding forest and nearby river. Part fresh challenge, part escape, Regan’s move to the forest was also a return to her rural roots, in an effort to deepen the intimate connection to nature and the land that she had long expressed as a chef, but experienced most intensely growing up.

The story became more compelling
Revisado: 05-23-23
Had a little difficulty engaging with the authors story and style, but became increasingly interested and engaged. She had an unusual childhood, and is indeed herself a somewhat unusual person I had to re-listen to some of the beginning, but I was glad I did. It was intriguing how she interwove her life story with mushrooms, and how they grow and develop. And reproduce. I don’t have to be the

Somehow I kept going it was listening to Dolly Parton as one of the narrators
Revisado: 11-22-22
If anyone else had written this book, I’m sure I would not have finished it, but it was fun to listen to Dolly Parton, and it seem to have a hint of an autobiographical story. However, the dialogue was painful and the part that made Rose run just did not come together, seemed gratuitous the whole thing had a feeling of enormous predictability.

Outstanding
Revisado: 04-08-21
Sometimes I use audible narration to listen to books at night before I go to sleep, I must admit I listened to this about four times because I would fall asleep and not be able to follow what was happening. So maybe this got into my DNA a bit and I finally just listened to the whole thing over again and it was an incredible treat. Historically interesting, lyrically written and the actors and actresses brought every character to life, their quirkiness and ambitions and even their willingness to be somewhat unethical one another to achieve their end goals.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Like many I thought it was a fun listen until it morphed into a poorly written sci-fi goofball plot at the end but whatever, walking the dog, washing dishes I decided to just finish it anyway, there is potential here for the writer and the narrator was great

Gabriel Miller took everything from me. My family. My innocence. My home. The only thing I have left is the determination to get back what's mine. He thinks he's beaten me. He thinks he's won. So bad I cannot believe it got published this is something like Fifty Shades of Grey only much worse
Revisado: 01-07-18
This book had nothing to recommend it, the story was confusing boring and poorly constructed. The adult content, something I occasionally enjoy just seemed tasteless not erotic . I did not like one character in the book and I felt the main character, Avery, was pathetic in the true sense of the word. I read or listen to two - three books a week and this was a standout for awful.
I subsequently noted this is an author with a fair number of published books, honestly I assumed it was a first or second published book. I only finish the book because it was very short and it was so bad I just wanted to say if it ever got better. It did not, there is a sequel oh spare me.
