Great listen!

Amazing narration by Andy Serkis, as always!!! The story itself was good, though it could have benefitted from more clear chapter breaks, and parts of it kind of dragged a bit. Still, overall a great listen especially if you're a Discworld fan!

A Must Listen for Any Tolkien Fan!!!

Andy Serkis can make even the phone book sound entertaining!!! The Silmarillion is no easy read, and stylistically it's more like a history book than a tale, but the incredible narration it comes to life, and it's a little easier to grasp. I read the Silmarillion twice before I listened so was somewhat familiar with the names, but if you've never read it, I highly recommend taking a look at the genealogies at the back of the book, either ahead of time or while you're listening - or you can just listen over and over, since this narrated version is so good!😊

Satisfying conclusion to trilogy

This was better than Castle in the Sky and felt more in line with Howl's Moving Castle. The ending felt a little rushed and I had a harder time feeling invested in the main characters. But a fun, if somewhat light hearted and frivolous, end to the trilogy.

I don't know why I waited so long to listen to this book - the narration is superb and this is definitely one of those books better listened to. The writing was absolutely beautiful.

The narrator really brought the story to life! I'm usually wary of narrators who are overly dramatic but in this case it was perfectly suited to the story! And of course the story itself is a classic and worthy of repeated hearing.

Touching story with incredible narration!

I don't often leave reviews, especially for contemporary books, but had to for this one. I went in with low expectations thinking it's yet another cliche book about an old person and an intergenerational friendship. The story itself was moving despite a plot that has been used many times before. What made this so incredible was the amazing narration! I'm not sure I would have liked the book nearly as much without this narrator. I am very picky with narrators, as they can make or break a book, and in this case the narrator took the book to another level. I felt like I was listening to a well done play and at times forgot it was being narrated by a single person. As someone who also often thinks about death and quality of life, and also cares about mental illness and how it impacts a family, the story held much interest for me. Maybe not for everybody but I think it's definitely worth a listen for anyone remotely interested!

Somewhat repetitive and lacking

I appreciate the author's commitment to thorough research and trying to stick to the facts and refrain from speculation, to give us a fair and unbiased portrait of Ghandi. However, in the process, he failed to elaborate on Ghandi's spirituality and motivations that shaped his convictions. As a result, at the end of such a long book, I still didn't feel that I got to really know Ghandi any more than when I first began. I now know in way more detail what he did and the events that prepared him for what he would later do in India. Perhaps this is a book better suited for those already familiar with Ghandi's writings and want more background information.

Interesting story, good narration

This was an interesting story, somewhat hard to relate to if you don't understand Japanese culture and the pressures to conform and be accepted by society.
