I love everything Mary Jane Wells narrates, so the performance is top notch as always. The story however is dragged out and the romance part is weak. I like the female character but the male was just meh. I didn’t feel like he had a real personality and his entire purpose for the story was to save her. He wasn’t funny or flirty or witty or any other traits that you find in romances that build up tension well. The more interesting parts of the book took place when he wasn’t in them, to be honest. And for those who like to know this info, there is only one steamy scene and it just barely pays off.

I don’t understand how anyone thinks this is a good story. It drags on, the writing is lazy, and the fact that the hero thinks getting his new bride drunk so he can have sex with her is insane to me. Then the next morning, she doesn’t remember anything and he kicks himself for not having sex with while she was passed out. I understand consent has changed since 2013, but not THAT much. I tried to keep with it and I absolutely love the narrator but it just kept getting weird.

I generally LOVE Mary Jane Wells and her narration was pretty good, but I did not like the voice of the Duke. It seemed silly-ish for a duke to have the tone and emphasis everything he said.
As for the story, this is my 1st Tessa Dare novel and I really enjoyed it. I found myself laughing from the banter and the awkward situations they would find themselves in. The book is also quite steamy, which I personally enjoyed.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and Mary Jane Wells’ narration, just not the voice of the Duke.

I didn't hate nor love this book. Some parts were interesting and the parts about Gilmore Girls was cool. But it was basically Loralai Gilmore telling the story of Lauren Graham in the first person. Which isn't exactly bad, but sometimes the character of Loralai gets to be too much and thus, also this book.
It's also kind of a whirlwind, glossed over highlight reel of her life, her career, and her time on Gilmore Girls. I wouldn't say anything is very detailed or helps you gain a deeper insight to the show. Not sure what I was expecting, but I was left expecting something more.

Let me start by saying there are many parts of this book I liked and laughed at, it just isn't what really stood out to me when I finished.
I was pretty disappointed in this book for a few reasons.
First, Ken narrates like he is hosting a E! news segment. His timing can be over dramatic and just down right odd in the context of an audiobook.
Second, he over emphasizes the toll this tumor had on his masculinity. By the end of the second chapter, I've heard so many dramatic comments about the tumor that I stop listening whenever he makes them. Don't get me wrong, I understand what he went through was life changing and emotional, but it can be conveyed just as strongly without the constant remarks. It's over done and repetitive.

My biggest problem lies in the fact that he dragged out his entire life story, made numerous illusions and foreshadowed the big event of his diagnosis, which finally comes in the last two hours of the audio. All this build up and he glosses over it, while the rest of the book goes into great detail about his entire life to that point.
I feel like really important events weren't mentioned or weren't broken down, which is odd because he analyzes everything.
Anyway, would not recommend to a friend. The movie is pretty bad too. Look else where.

I loved listening to this book and I have a tremendous amount of respect for Trevor Noah after listening. His insights about race, crime, South Africa, and Apartheid are powerful without being heavy. His story never gets bogged down by the backstory, a skill many authors don't have. His life is unlike any other biography I've read or listened to, and lm a biography junkie.
I will say sometimes his delivery is a bit awkward and doesn't quite flow. I also noticed he didn't add a lot of humor, considering he is a comedian. But it really doesn't matter because you get so involved in the story.
What stood out to me most was the racial dynamics within groups as well as the assumptions. Insights so wildly outside anything I know that were fascinating and heart breaking.
I guarantee that this book is unlike any other biography you've read and it is well worth your time.

The line that stands out most "The hood provides a ground, but also a ceiling."

I really wanted to love this book. I relate to a lot of what she writes about, especially the dysfunctional relationship with food. But, the use of metaphors and similes is overwhelming and totally drags the book down.

Another thing that bothered me was how intense and emotional her voice is throughout the ENTIRE book! Everything sounds heart-wrenching and almost monotonous in a way, even when what she is saying isn't heart wrenching. Perhaps she's trying to convey passion, but it doesn't work here.

On top of the overly emotional narration, I don't think there is even one joke in this whole book or humorous spin on anything.

Between all the metaphors and similes as well as her perhaps overly emotional voice, I felt like this book was mentally daunting and dragged everything down. I understand her journey was hard and she still struggles, but good lord, lighten the mood once in a while and hire a better editor.

There was a lot I liked about this audiobook, specially Greg's scarily spot on impression of Tommy. However, I felt like Greg read the material a bit awkwardly, which got frustrating at times. Also, there were awkwardly big words sprinkled throughout the book that didn't flow with the story itself. It seemed like the author wanted to assure people he was smart by interjecting lesser known words here and there. I'm not opposed to the use of bigger words being used, I'm simply saying that they didn't flow with the conversational style of the book. Still, I am glad I listened to the audiobook instead of just reading the actual book because listening to the story was much more entertaining.
As for the book itself, I felt like the ending needed an afterward of some kind. Is he still friends with Tommy? How does Tommy feel about his movie being a huge running joke? How did the crowd respond to the first screening? What happened to him and Tommy afterward?
Despite those small things, Greg does a great job of unraveling the weirdness that is Tommy Wiseau. I only know The Room by reputation and YouTube clips, however I feel rather inspired to watch it now.
