Historia
Economic Facts and Fallacies is designed for people who want to understand economic issues without getting bogged down in economic jargon, graphs, or political rhetoric. Writing in a lively manner that does not require any prior knowledge of economics, Thomas Sowell exposes some of the most popular fallacies about economic issues, including many that are widely disseminated in the media and by politicians.

Provides lots of evidence for the unpopular opinions he promotes. I would definitely recommend to others.

Historia
In the beginning was the loan, and the loan carried interest. For at least five millennia people have been borrowing and lending at interest. Yet as capitalism became established from the late Middle Ages onwards, denunciations of interest were tempered because interest was a necessary reward for lenders to part with their capital. And interest performs many other vital functions: it encourages people to save; enables them to place a value on precious assets, such as houses and all manner of financial securities; and allows us to price risk.

I really enjoyed this outside the box view on interest rates and their history. I wish more people, especially those in power, have read this book.

Historia
He was the unlikeliest of presidential candidates - dismissed by opponents as a movie actor, a right-winger trying to undo the work of liberals stretching back to Franklin Roosevelt. Yet Ronald Reagan made it to the White House, taking office in a time of economic turmoil, waning prestige abroad, and a general dampening of the American spirit. Reagan's patriotism, wit, and optimism lifted the nation and brought it through several crises.

Good book, but his 2nd term seems rushed
Revisado: 06-28-22
It was informative and brings out Reagan’s best qualities. Only about 10% of the book covers his 2nd term, which I found disappointing. I would have preferred more details on that time frame. It felt rushed. Loved everything else though.

Historia
The 13 chapters of The Art of War, each devoted to one aspect of warfare, were compiled by the high-ranking Chinese military general, strategist, and philosopher Sun-Tzu. In spite of its battlefield specificity, The Art of War has found new life in the modern age, with leaders in fields as wide and far-reaching as world politics, human psychology, and corporate strategy finding valuable insight in its timeworn words.

Historia
What causes a gifted child to be emotionally driven and highly empathetic? How come an intelligent person is typically self-motivated and self-disciplined to the extreme? The explanation lies in the fact that gifted people make a lot of connections in their brains. These connotations from interrelated facts and observations cause them to become both dramatic and extremely excited about occurrences in life, depending on what it is.

George Orwell's classic satire of the Russian Revolution is an intimate part of our contemporary culture, quoted so often that we tend to forget who wrote the original words! This must-read is also a must-listen!

I enjoyed the performance, but the book is okay.
Revisado: 09-23-20
For being a literary classic that is so frequently discussed, I expected the story to be more clever with more themes that require deep thought. Instead, the book is merely a fable about the Russian Revolution and is predictable from beginning to end without any real moments of literary genius. Worth reading once and once only.

Historia
In an age when philosophers had scarcely glimpsed the horizons of the mind, a boy named Aristocles decided to forgo his ambitions as a wrestler. Adopting the nickname Plato, he embarked instead on a life in philosophy. In 387 B.C. he founded the Academy, the world's first university, and taught his students that all we see is not reality but merely a reproduction of the true source. And in his famous Republic he described the politics of "the highest form of state."

Of course 90 minutes cannot give a full telling of Plato's life or philosophy, but it's a great introduction.

Historia
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.
