Historia
There may never be another era of science like the first half of the twentieth century, when many of the most important physicists ever to live—Marie Curie, Max Planck, Wolfgang Pauli, Niels Bohr, Werner Heisenberg, Ernst Schrödinger, Albert Einstein, and others—came together to uncover the quantum world: a concept so outrageous and shocking, so contrary to traditional physics, that its own founders rebelled against it until the equations held up and fundamentally changed our understanding of reality. Tobias Hürter takes us back to this uniquely momentous and harrowing time.

Old Stories Thrown Together Once More
Revisado: 04-24-23
I was hoping for more science, for some reason. I should have known.
This is like lots of biographies put together with no science that I noticed.

The Stories Begin to End
Revisado: 02-09-21
I thought I only had one Montalbano book to go, but I found a few more and some other books by Andrea Camilleri, which was great. In "The Sicilian Method," a sixty-year-old Montalbano faces changes in life and an interesting case, but the way Camilleri deals with Montalbano's aging is poetry and natural. That's what I like best about this one.

Does time exist? What is infinity? Why do mirrors reverse left and right but not up and down? In this scintillating collection, Holt explores the human mind, the cosmos, and the thinkers who’ve tried to encompass the latter with the former. With his trademark clarity and humor, Holt probes the mysteries of quantum mechanics, the quest for the foundations of mathematics, and the nature of logic and truth. Along the way, he offers intimate biographical sketches of celebrated and neglected thinkers, from the physicist Emmy Noether to the computing pioneer Alan Turing and the discoverer of fractals, Benoit Mandelbrot.

Historia
Vigàta is bustling as the new filming location for a Swedish television series set in 1950. In the production frenzy, the director asks the locals to track down movies and vintage photos to faithfully recreate the air of Vigàta in that time. Engineer Ernesto Sabatello, while rummaging in the attic of his house, finds some films shot by his father from 1958 to 1963 - always on the same day, March 27; and always the same shot, the outside wall of a country house. Montalbano hears the story and, intrigued by the mystery of it, begins to investigate its meaning.

I have greatly enjoyed the Inspector Montalbano series, and I think I only have two more to read. I admire the author, Andrea Camilleri, immensely. He wrote into his nineties, I believe, and these novels never lose their humanity and humor. Highly recommended.

Historia
Physicists have been exploring, debating, and questioning the general theory of relativity ever since Albert Einstein first presented itin 1915. Their work has uncovered a number of the universe's more surprising secrets, and many believe further wonders remain hidden within the theory's tangle of equations, waiting to be exposed. In this sweeping narrative of science and culture, astrophysicist Pedro Ferreira brings general relativity to life through the story of the brilliant physicists, mathematicians, and astronomers who have taken up its challenge.

history
Revisado: 11-29-20
“The Perfect Theory: A Century of Geniuses and the Battle Over Relativity” is just the book I need. “The Perfect Theory,” of course, is Einstein’s relativity, but included in the “battle” are quantum theory and string and loop theory, multiverses, and more. I needed the sense of having a feel for the progress and stages, the entrances and developments and connections between all these ideas and the people who had the ideas, fought and promoted the ideas. This book also gave me a sense of where many of the terms I see developed in the theories and conjectures.

Affection for "Enmity"
Revisado: 08-12-20
So many crime fiction books sort of run the same track that I when I find likable characters who even make me laugh while they solve crimes, I feel like I have found something worth continuing. I got tired of depressed police procedurals, and these Scottish stories are just the antidote. Good stories, great characters, little scenery, some jokes. One thing, watch carefully at the end, or it will throw you off the train! lol!

Billy Kelly's This Is a Family Show! is a stand-up comedy experience (with music) that parents and kids can enjoy together. From jokes about nocturnal animals and microwaves to Ben Franklin and people throwing turtles, the whole family will laugh along while listening to this comedian’s unique perspectives. It’s comedy toast with the crust cut off. Who needs all that crusty talk about dating, politics, and money, anyway?

I love theater, but...
Revisado: 02-15-18
The basics are here, but the volume of all the players must be within a better, narrower range of quiet to loud; as it is, one is so loud you have to turn it down, and the next is so quiet, you have to turn it up.
This volume problem also varies by character, which makes it worse. One character is always too loud and another is always too quiet; this distorts the relationships of the characters. I hope you keep trying, and just fix these fundamentals.

Enjoyable. I didn’t realize how much I liked it until I was listening to the music at the end and letting images of the play float through my mind.
