Not the normal story by Sue Townsend
Revisado: 06-09-24
A very good tale told from the different perspectives. Sue manages to make all the different characters come to life in a masterful way. This is a topic that is today less of a taboo, but still one. Thank you for giving these children a voice for once.

Historia
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Sci-fi at its best
Revisado: 06-08-24
As a lover of Sci-fi, I really enjoyed this book. Had to listen to it at speed 1.15 otherwise the speed was just too slow. Interesting to hear where the idea for the Big Brother shows originated from.

Historia
Straitlaced Evelyn and reformed bad boy Marco might make an unlikely pair, but the two lovebirds couldn’t be more head over heels for each other. Sure, they’ve had some missed calls along the way, but all that’s in the past. They’ve got their sights set on forever, and the next stop is a walk down the aisle in front of their friends and family. It’s the big day, and everyone’s gathered to watch Marco and Evelyn say "I do". Everyone except Evelyn that is. Is the bride running late or running? The surprising answer might just be in their voicemails.

People who don't listen to voicemail...
Revisado: 03-03-23
I'm one of them and can relate with both characters regarding the problems with voicemails and having to listen to them...
This is such an enjoyable book, funny and based on real everyday occurrences that can cause confusion without meaning to.
Definitely worth the listen!

Historia
Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman gives an understated and exemplary performance of this satiric look at the unreality of American media culture. Chance, the enigmatic gardener, becomes Chauncey Gardiner after getting hit by a limo belonging to a Wall Street tycoon. The whirlwind that follows brings Chance to his new status of political policy advisor and possible vice presidential candidate. His garden-variety political responses, inspired by television, become heralded as visionary, and he is soon a media icon.

Not listening carefully and making assumptions...
Revisado: 01-15-23
When you listen only partially but think is was completely, you tend to make assumptions that can lead you on a very different path.
And if you are the person the assumption was made about without your knowledge, it is sometimes just easier to go with the flow...
Listen to this story expertly narrated by Dustin Hoffman and find out just how far assumptions can take Chance.

Still better than Netflix...
Revisado: 10-09-22
Netflix did an excellent job with the series of The Sandman. For once the series lived up to the expectations the audio book created in my imagination.
Thank you for continuing the series in Act 3. Definitely worth the listen and the throwback to the Canterbury tales was very enjoyable.

If histtory could be rewritten...
Revisado: 08-25-22
How many times have you wished that history was different, that you could go back in time and change a decision you have made?
The author rewrote history, Diana didn't die and the eldest son of William is called James. James converted to Islam, Diana and Dodi married and influenced him a lot. He fell in love with a Saudi princess after it was arranged that the two of them meet a lot and communicate over the years.
What happens if everyone and everything seems to be against a certain couple? They seem to be pushed towards each other...
It's an interesting take on the way the English government retaliate to the situation...

Historia
On a dark, wintry day, Eliza Grey receives a mysterious letter from her ailing Nana Mora begging her to come for a visit. This is an easy "Yes". Eliza has always preferred Nana Mora's beach cottage on St. Simons Island to the apartment she and her mom call home in the city. The island is a magical place where stories and legends grow as thick as the Spanish moss dangling in the trees. Now, Nana Mora's eyesight is fading, and there's something she wants to show Eliza before it’s totally gone: a mythical place locals refer to as Sirens Harbor.
