Flat, one-dimensional characters. Protagonist is 30 years old, but acts 12. The big baddie is evil for the sake of being evil. Demon chicken is just there for decoration. Felt very decieved by the blurb.

Can't believe how bad this book was. How was it able to slip past an editor? The premise sounded interesting and the cover art looked decent. Oh, how naive I was...
To begin with the book was hilarious because everything was so far out, bizarre and absurd. Then... Nothing happend, the world felt like the size of a shoe box and everything was "told" rather than "shown". Maybe plot would have happend if everybody wasn't constantly so ridiculously horny and had been gifted with more than 4 braincells. To share. But alas.
I made it through though. Guess the silverlining here is that from this point on, things can only get better.

The one thing this book's got going is it's fast pace. However that doesn't balance out the host of extremely unlikeable and shallow characters, the fashion porn, the unnecessary drama. I could drive a truck through the plot holes.

Filled to the brim with unnecessary detail, plotholes and boring characters. Worst of all were the protagonist. We never get to know him because he is always acting some other character. He is dull and without motivation or passion. And the women in this book... Can't say why any of them were attracted to him, but 2/3 had to get drunk first before shagging him. I have also learnt that Phillip Pullman and I have very different tastes in books.

I could not get past the narrator's tone. It seemed almost spiteful. It became extremely distracting and did not fit with the changing moods/scenes of the stories. This made it hard for me to follow what was going on, and so I could not finish the book.
