Historia
When she was suddenly given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, journalist and archetypal Londoner Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: the happiest place on earth isn't Disneyland but Denmark, a land often thought of by foreigners as consisting entirely of long, dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries. What is the secret to their success? Are happy Danes born or made?

I could not be more happy with this book. I was a little reluctant, thinking it might be another "self help" tool. And it is. but the help offered can be used regardless of where you live. It is funny, poignant and best of all, relevant.

Historia
In a warren of crumbling buildings and desperate people called the Old City, there stands a hospital with cinderblock walls that echo the screams of the poor souls inside. In the hospital, there is a woman. Her hair, once blond, hangs in tangles down her back. She doesn't remember why she's in such a terrible place. Just a tea party long ago, and long ears, and blood.

Historia
Mattie Ross, a 14-year-old girl from Dardanelle, Arkansas, sets out to avenge her Daddy who was shot to death by a no-good outlaw. Mattie convinces one-eyed "Rooster" Cogburn, the meanest U.S. marshal in the land, to ride along with her. In True Grit, we have a true American classic, as young Mattie, as vital as she is innocent, outdickers and outmaneuvers the hard-bitten men of the trail in a legend that will last through the ages.

This was my first time reading the story. Like many of you, I have seen both versions of the movie. And while a fan of the movie, they do not do justice to this work. I am so glad that I found it.

Historia
Traumatized by the bombing of Dresden at the time he had been imprisoned, Pilgrim drifts through all events and history, sometimes deeply implicated, sometimes a witness. He is surrounded by Vonnegut's usual large cast of continuing characters (notably here the hack science fiction writer Kilgore Trout and the alien Tralfamadorians, who oversee his life and remind him constantly that there is no causation, no order, no motive to existence).

Revisado: 03-21-17
I really wanted to like this book. I enjoyed the first couple of chapters about Vonnegut's quest to write a book about Dresden. But then came the story. it was less than satisfying. he earns the readers that he doesn't remember much about the war and that the book will be bad...he wasn't far off.

More of a juvenile fiction selection.
Revisado: 03-20-17
I did not dislike this book. However, it is very predictable and the story was a little thin. It was entertainment as far as it goes. but the story is not all that believable and not all that satisfying. I would say it was a good first draft of something that could have gone on to be a solid story.

This creative story allows you to notice hidden gems within the story without pointing them out with blinking neon signs stating "important detail!!! Pay attention!!!" Great story telling with characters that make you care what happens to them. I liked it so much that I listened to it a second time immediately after the first reading! I can't wait to see what's next.

Complex but worth it!
Revisado: 06-30-16
This is not your garden variety "police mystery". And the big pay off is less in the plot twists and more in the character and stories. When it ended I felt as if I was saying goodbye to friends. I happily recommend this to people who really like to dig in to a book. If a short, predictable and expected outcome is your speed...keep looking. Loved the characters and I look forward to reading more!
