Historia
It turns out giving up your "right" to be offended can be one of the most freeing, healthy, simplifying, relaxing, refreshing, stress-relieving, encouraging things you can do. It's a radical, provocative idea: We're not entitled to get offended or stay angry. The idea of our own "righteous anger" is a myth. It is the number one problem in our societies today and, as Dallas Willard says, Christians have not been taught out of it. But what if Christians were the most unoffendable people on the planet?

You don't have to be angry all the time!
Revisado: 08-15-24
In today's cancel culture, Christians are given the perfect opportunity to be a breath of fresh air as they live the gospel message of grace received, grace given. This is a book I will listen to often. As a former high level volunteer in our church, I've been struggling to find my purpose outside formal ministry. This book is wind beneath my wings, pointing me back to the daily opportunities that exist right under my own two feet to offer up a huge serving of kindness as I, moment by moment, make the choice to not be so easily offended. I'm not a negative person and I wouldn't describe myself as angry, but I also think I could be a better dispenser of joy juice in so many little moments life brings my way. It's so fun going about my day looking for opportunities to not be offended by people's unthoughfulness, selfishness or insensitivity in general, and to surprise them with grace. Great book to help you rise above and enjoy the new point of view! Thank you Brant! You have blessed me with a new ministry!

Historia
Los Angeles, 1920s: Socialite Mirielle West's days are crowded with shopping, luncheons, and prepping for the myriad glittering parties she attends with her actor husband, Charlie. She's been too busy to even notice the small patch of pale skin on the back of her hand. Other than an occasional overindulgence in gin and champagne, which helps to numb the pain of recent tragedy, Mirielle is the picture of health. But her doctor insists on more tests, and Mirielle reluctantly agrees. The diagnosis - leprosy - is devastating and unthinkable.

Escape to A Leper colony for a reading oasis!
Revisado: 07-29-22
At first I wasn't sure I could deal with the shock of this woman's plight as she is rushed off to a Leper colony from her glamorous Hollywood life style, but as the story unfolds and you begin to get to know the characters in the story you begin to realize, just like the main character does, what really matters in life isn't things, but our efforts to build quality of the relationships with the people we journey with no matter our circumstances . I was really sad when I had to bid farewell at the end of the story!

Historia
In Creekstone, Texas, a small, quiet suburb of Houston, football was king and David Temple was a prince. A former high school and college gridiron-star-turned-coach, he had a fairy-tale marriage to bright, vivacious Belinda Lucas, a teacher at the local high school who was so warm and popular her colleagues called her "The Sunshine Girl". The fairy tale ended savagely on January 11, 1999, when Belinda's lifeless body was discovered in a closet. Her skull had been shattered by a shotgun blast at close range. She was eight months pregnant.

I'm a big Ann Rule fan but at times I tire of climbing the mountain of details she includes in her stories. Kathryn Casey is a breath of fresh air helping the listener reach the pinnacle of truth without the minute details unnecessary to tell the story.

Historia
Dixie Shanahan had a terribly troubled and abusive marriage in the sleepy little town of Defiance, Iowa. Then one summer day in 2002, Dixie's mean and wicked husband was gone. Some of the local residents presumed that Scott packed his bags and left town. But others were skeptical. After all, Scott's brown Ford pick-up truck was still parked in his driveway. The disappearance mystified Defiance for more than a year. Then in late October, 2003, the truth emerged - or did it?

Dixie didn't cut it for me
Revisado: 11-04-15
While the story is a one of a kind crime (don't want to spoil it so that's all I'll say about the crime) the writer lacks the polish and poise of the more skilled story weavers in the field of crime stories such as Ann Rule. Maybe a few more books down the road this author will be someone I'd give 5 stars to, but much work is needed until I could give my highest rating. Read it because of the uniqueness of the crime if nothing else.
