Historia
What’s the problem? Sixteen-year-old Filipino American Angelo Rivera will tell you flat out. Life sucks. He’s been uprooted from his San Diego home to a boring landlocked town in the middle of nowhere. Behind him, ocean waves, his girlfriend, and the biggest skateboarding competition on the California coast. Ahead, flipping burgers at his parents’ new diner and, as the only Asian in his all-white school, being trolled as “brown boy” by small-minded, thick-necked jocks. Resigned to being an outcast, Angelo isn’t alone.

Lame
Revisado: 08-10-22
This book gave after school television special vibes. Or a cringy diversity training video that corporate makes you watch. The characters all felt like overly used stereotypes. The storyline itself was predictable. It was a little preachy at times. I was hoping for more substance instead of the cookie cutter fluff that made up most of the book.

Historia
I fell for William Grayson in a matter of minutes. The connection between us was undeniable, but our timing was off. I was dating someone and by the time I was single again, he was taken. And a year later, when we finally got together, it was clear that we were soul mates. But circumstances out of our control cut our time short.

So Emotional
Revisado: 08-05-22
This was my first Danielle Allen read four years ago. Since then I’ve completed almost her entire catalog. I am such a fan of her work. I decided to revisit this story via audiobook. I loved it all over again. I forgot that it was going to make me feel so many things. The storyline became exceptionally interesting after watching Issa, Lawrence, and Condola navigate this same journey. Allen wrote the blueprint. I spent the whole book wanting to throttle William. His emotional illiteracy was maddening! I wanted so much better for Layla. This book snatched me by my edges up until the very end.

Nope
Revisado: 08-03-22
This series just isn’t for me. I found this book to be slightly better than the previous book, but the bar was low. Like the first book, I was underwhelmed with the dating options. I was also turned off by the close proximity of her potential matches. Their interactions were overlapping in a cringy way. The biggest drawback for me was Tiwanda. She was incredibly difficult to root for or like. She complained about everything. She didn’t like anything or anybody. I couldn’t get past her abrasive personality. The ending left me feeling underwhelmed. We could’ve skipped the journey.
