I have always been a big fan of Non-human protagonists. I have always felt that it is a type of protagonist that doesn't really get used all that often. However they have completely different struggles and needs than a human would. So even if the you had the same idea for a story, and you decided to write it twice. Then changed the Mc from human to non-human it would utterly change the story simply based off of that. Now about Syl the book itself. I absolutely adored this book. The main character is likeable and doesn't simply act as a human would as a slime, but actually how a sentient slime would act playing as human. The story has a good pace and has a decent amount of things happening. The author also doesn't bombard you with Syl's status recap a million times in this book. Which is great for a litrpg, because it always feels like padding when the Status summary is used excessively. The only complaint I would give this book is actually in the voices. The voices themselves are great and you can clearly tell who is speaking. However there are some weird pacing and audio jumps in the final editing. This is really prevalent when they are describing something as "acidic", or "pointy". I know it is meant to be kind of different to the normal voices since it is a result of a skill. However sometimes it feels like I am having audio issues. Which can detract from the experience. Overall the book is great and the VAs are great.

I wasn't sure if I should buy this book or not. I really enjoyed the first two books, however there was an issue that made them hard to listen to. I should probably say that I am no stranger to LitRpgs, So I am also familiar with the whole status rundown that they like to do. This series has historical been the worst case of the whole status rundown. I mean when the rundown is 40+ minutes it grows tedious. Especially when Zero inspects it so often. It doesn't really make you feel like she is progressing. It honestly just felt like fluff to make the book longer. Now that I have made my opinion on the other 2 books known. I have to say it is a breath of fresh air for this book to not have many of those moments. The pacing and mood felt so much better in this book due to it. I wasn't in constant dread that the story would have to pause for another minor update that would take the rest of the chapter to finally be summarized. I really appreciated the change to this book and hope that this change continues on through the rest of the series as well. I have been enjoying Zero learning more about her human side and how those connections actually matter. If this series continues to grip me this way. I will definitely be buying new book as it is released. Hope to see more from this series soon.

This one is hard for me to write. I am a huge fan of the previous 2 books of this series, and I was ecstatic when I saw book 3 coming out. However, this book, in my opinion, falls flat in several aspects. the first thing that bothers me is the lack of freedom that the mc has in this one. Every other book Alana rebels against anyone who tries to cage her. However, that is exactly what happens in this book. Then there is the fact that she just recklessly throws her revelations to her dad's new empire. This would be fine in most cases, but she specifically never wanted to add to the military might of a nation. So, to see her gladly throwing out everything she does here is irksome to me. I mean, why tell them about half the stuff she confesses to? So she could be protected? Well, telling a conquerer useful things won't make him want to let her roam free. Then there is the fact that nothing of importance actually happens. We spend the entire book on the most boring and stifling matters imaginable. I just can't get over how dissatisfied I was with this one. I am holding out hopes for book 4, but my hopes are severely lowered after this one.

So I made it to the Third book in this series hoping things would change. Hoping that the biggest faults with this story would become less blatantly obvious. However the more I read, the more the problems ended up showing. SO first I want to complain about Medrano's love of multiple perspectives. For the most part I do not mind having these multiple perspectives. I like understanding what other characters are thinking when other things are happening. However adding the perspectives of the villains and even the lesser main heroes of this book just ruins a lot of the intrigue. When I read/listen to a story I want to experience the same story the MC is experiencing. However with Medrano's style everything is played out to where their are little to no surprises. If you like this then go ahead and read this book. For people who like to be surprised and shocked, do not read this.

Spoilers!!!!!!
Now let us discuss the main problem I have with these stories. The Heroes are fricken Useless. I mean they do nothing but get destroyed by the villains. Frankly it is laughable that the villains lose every time. The heroes constantly get beaten down and their lack of any for planning leads to the torture of two heroes. Like it would be common sense to keep an eye on a hero who was clearly being targeted. However when one of their own gets attacked and her powers sealed. They just kind of leave her to her own devises. So when she inevitably get kidnapped and tortured , you are just sitting there thinking "Why are the heroes so incompetent?" I think I could have forgiven that if it was a one off thing, however it literally happens again and the heroes have no Idea. I understand that the heroes have to be reactive to be heroes, but come on!!! They have tech wizards who literally do nothing 90% of the time. Let them have gadgets that can help repel villains. Let them have an a way of detecting that their tech is being hacked. Let them have a way of keeping an eye on one another. Make it more even! Why do the villains have all of these advantages that the heroes lack? I mean when I at least think of good vs evil, Hero vs Villain. I think of a war kind of scenario where heroes typically have the upper hand due to the fact that they work together. However when you give villains all of the advantages and make the heroes so stupid and ill prepared it is hard to see them winning in anyway they do. I mean for crying out loud, the reason they save the second hero from the torture and are able to revert her back to normal is because of a villain, because apparently villains can have information networks to figure thing out. I hate to keep repeating this, but I did not see any growth when it came to the heroes becoming actually competent.

Lastly, I just want to ask why is torture so pervasive in these types of books. I don't mind reliving past traumas and the like. However sitting down and listening to a character being torture here and now, especially with how utterly pitiful the Heroes are in this story. Just makes me uncomfortable and doesn't make me want to continue. I think this story would have been more interesting if the MC would have been Blooming Orchid after her transformation. Having to live with the changes that were made to her body due to her lack of skill. Instead of a synthesized human who literally for the first two books does nothing but stand there a cower. I hate MCs who are so useless that they do nothing to help their friends. Her power is boring and isn't deserving of a MC role in the type of book Medrano has written. She would have been better suited for a villain role with her current power. So yeah those are the main reasons I have given this book the rating I have.

I have enjoyed this series so far. It has been fun and very interesting. In fact the concept is very intriguing to me. However If this is how the next book will be I will probably not finish it. Not because the story has suffered, though later I will go into some grievances I have with the story. The main Problem is that about 75% of the story is taken away from the main character. Sure I don't mind having chapters with multiple perspectives, in fact if done right adds a layer of depth that can be very impactful. However When you are on book 4 of 6 and they suddenly start trying to divide the story between all the characters it just becomes frustrating. I mean I got this far because I liked the MC and was enjoying her tale. Then all of the sudden Rolland is taking a much more important roll than Chaos is. I know in the past they had several chapters where the Mc isn't the main point of interest, however this book takes it to the extreme. Also it started irking me in the last book. This time is is really making me frustrated. By the end of the book I started to get more bored than anything. All I could think was "Where is Chloe?" "Why isn't this in her perspective?" "How comes it only feels like 25% of this book is focused on our MC?" When I am having thoughts like that instead of the actual points of the story it just ended up boring me. (Spoiler warning!!!!) Another problem is the Academy portion of this. I mean Chloe had the counter spell and only used it like once. Also her being sent up to space to learn could have been interesting. However only a few chapters focus on her time their since the book focused on Asoko and Rolland more than Chloe, and that ruined the entire book for me. Like I said I am here for Chloe's story. I couldn't give less of a crap to Rolland and his misguided fragile way of looking at things. His bland personality and his pathetic views that change on a fricking dime. Nor do I care how Asoko is eyeing the maids and which one to take to bed. I want to know about Chloe and her adventures. However I will not be finishing this series it has angered me enough. Nothing gets down in it. Nothing is achieved and if it takes all six books for that even a moment of satisfaction then I do not care enough to actually continue this dreadful act. The first few books were great. The 3rd book was fine. However by the fourth you shoukd be done with this roundabout nonsense that happen and the unceremonial way it all occurs. This book literally just ruins all that this story had going for it. So I will not continue wasting my time on this series.

so I want to start off by saying all the things I liked about this story. The world was vast and interesting. The types of creatures was also appealing. lastly the fact the the fallen parts be used and sold at black markets was an awesome dark system. However all of this melted away like snow in spring when you get down to the nitty gritty core of these series. Fortuna never really likes herself. She views her powers as a constant negative. She hates her powers like some people hate a terrible neighbor. Wanting to seal it away and never see it again. Also for how powerful Fortuna is she never actually does anything. The wolf pack ended, not due to her but the pack gaining a new alpha. Also so far all these books have had little problems in the grand scheme of these. The shadow hunting her is barely mentioned and seems more like an after thought. I know it is the main premise of book four, but when a problem arrives and gets solved within the same series it just doesn't feel like it mattered. then there is the fact that all of these hunters and extremists don't actually have any real impact on the story makes it seem more like usless information. So if the main premise is unknown, the main character hates herself, the entire cast is having a huge pity party, and the world and its inhabitants have no real meaning then the last thing is Fortuna's relationship. With this she takes a step forward and tow steps back because drama is necessary to push this plot through. Since the story doesn't have an over arching story it needs to create useless drama to continue on with the story. If Fortuna had to deal with the extremists making so.e ground by using the black market and acquiring parts to make a super weapon to wipe out the two courts or if she had to deal with a war against the Sicily court, then the plot wouldn't have to use so much drama. This world is vast and has so many factions in it. However at the end everything is essentially pointless. The conflicts resolve without the mx having to do anything and she cannot hold a relationship to save her life. I don't even mean a romantic relationship since she just pushes everyone away for no real reason.

I have read a lot of these negative reviews. From what I gather people want the stories to quickly speed towards action and resolution. If so this book will not be for you. Jude can't just magically obtain what she wants. It is through countless events that she perseveres through that make her character. This is the story of an outsider trying to find a place to belong. She has trials and tribulations to go through to find it. If you think that it can be rushed, than you are a fool. The death of a lot of excellent books is down playing the protagonists struggles. In order to really invest yourself, you will need to understand that answers and solutions don't come easy. Jude is in an alien place where she really isn't wanted. She wants to belong there and views our world as the alien place. She no longer fully views herself as human. She wants the folk to accept her and she wants a place among them. Not all stories have to have a grand and noble quest to be great. Jude is not special, she is a normal human. However she takes on many aspects of her adopted red cap father. So she can't just magically get what she wants. She fights to obtain and maintain her positions of power. It disappoints me that people think something amazing has to happen for a book to be great. I personally think the way Jude struggles and fights back is what makes all 3stories great.

(probable spoiler warning)I had my qualms with this series from the beginning. However throughout the story I had started hoping the the main hurdle. Though it was Cole's main goal to return to his land. I saw it as his biggest character flaw. He made that decision when the times were bad and it seemed as though the outskirts were bad. This made sense, his hatred and disgust was valid. However he changed his view gradually throughout the five books. Sure their was still death and destruction. However he made friends, started connections, and actually started liking his time. So when he chose to knowingly leave the place and to forget about his time there and all of his friends. That showed he never actually grew as a character. His character stayed stagnant and never deviated from the ending everyone saw coming. To this end it made the character feel way 2 dimensional and lacked any real suspense. When I heard about "The Pilgrims Pass" answer, I felt as though it was a convenient way to wrap everything up. Instead of making Cole struggle between his old friends and his new friends. Cole just always went with his old ones. He sided with them and that never changed. I know he cares about his new friends, However he really only saw them as tools to achieve the end predicted in the beginning. When the pivotal moment happened Cole left them with little worry. This shows a fundamental problem with his character. He was too rigid and unmoving. He never had to change and grow. He never had to learn to appreciate what he had or to learn to appreciate what he was giving. He worked hard built a life and left it behind because of prior bad memories. In my mind this is ludicrous. Why deny a character that chance to grow and learn. The entire time I listened, I hoped I was wrong with the ending. Now I just feel dissatisfied and disappointed.

(potential spoilers) As I read this series I was entranced to it. I feel as though I was glamoured. I typically have a lot of complaints about a book or its series. However this had things that most shy away from. Things I crave in a story are things like: World building, characters, significant choices, proper trials, change, realistic outcomes, realism when it comes to the characters and how they are set up, character progression, and how naturally they all come together. I have always loved reading and how it can easily draw you in a world that is new and interesting. Everytime I start a series like this I get a pang of worry. As easily it is for me to get sucked into a story. If I can't connect to the characters and relate to them. If I don't feel like I am experiencing it with them. Then in my mind the story falls apart. Why am I saying all of this? Well because this story delivers more than that. I delivers all I wanted in a good story, then expanded upon them to make it great. I read reviews about the first boo being dull and boring. A story you have to push through so that you can get to the second. I didn't understand that when I actually listened to it. That part got me engrossed into the story, the characters, and what they were all about. The second was when characters had to make choices. They had to choose on what loyalties they had and to whom. The third was a thrilling conclusion to all of the tensions and fears that everyone had. The thing that seperatates it from the rest is the simple things. The main character doesn't magically win unwinnable fights. the conflicts and resolutions feel real. Holly Black doesn't just let the character win and win. Most of her wins comes from sacrifice and loss. She loses and I mean loses a lot. However she is a fricken trooper who never breaks. She merely hardens in the face of adversity. It is rare to find a story like this. Most of the time the climatic fights end with something that isn't really realistic. However here it feels right. Here it feels real, I am extremely glad to have found this series and given it a chance.

I love this series very much. I was invested from the first book. sure the series lagged at times, but the story and world building was solid. The part the keeps this from getting a 5/5 is character building. (possible spoilers). Everyone in the series "grew" but it didn't feel natural enough and it felt rushed. Sure most of it happened over a great period of time, but we don't really get see it happening. All we get is the end result and then told that it happens. I was hoping that the two main characters would show that growth happen. However felt as though they grew the least out of their band of friends. Kallista is never able to deviate from her obsession over her father. She constantly puts everyone at risk to pursue hunches and guesses. She rarely plays nice and tries so often to be a line wolf. She holds all of these burdens, plans, and fears she has to herself. The only time she confides in anyone is when she is absolutely forced to. Trenton isn't much better though. He constantly doubts himself and puts himself down with his own ineptitude. He relies too much on others and obviously hates being alone. Then he also likes to avoid certain topics he dislikes talking about. When he faces a problem, he usually tries his best to run and hide. The only reason he even comes up with his plans or ideas is because his friends push him to do so for the most part. I personally think these are great character flaws and could lead to some amazing growth. Unfortunately the characters know they have this problem and never truly try to work it out. The other 4 in the group actually go through some character arcs and better themselves as people. The part that sucks about that is that it is said and not really shown through most of this book and series. With all that put aside though, this book is definitely the best. It has some high octane action and can really get your heart pounding. All the secrets that get revealed and the world that Savage had worked so hard build, along with the compelling story, culminated into a great read that had me excited from start to finish. I did find it weird that only in this book did we shift from Trenton 's POV to Kallista's POV, but I think it was an interesting concept. If his next series just works a little bit more on character development and showing it and not just stating it, then I think it will be something special.
