Historia
On an April day in 1937, the sky opens and fire rains down upon the small Spanish town of Guernica. Seventeen-year-old Sibi and her family are caught up in the horror. Griff, an American military attaché, pulls Sibi from the wreckage, and it’s only the first time he saves her life in a span of hours. When Germany claims no involvement in the attack, insisting the Spanish Republic was responsible, Griff guides Sibi to lie to Nazi officials. If she or her sisters reveal that they saw planes bearing swastikas, the gestapo will silence them—by any means necessary.

Historia
A white woman has been bludgeoned to death with an altar cross in a rural church on Cicada Road in Walterboro, South Carolina. Sam Jenkins, a Black man, is found covered in blood, kneeling over the body. In a state already roiling with racial tension, this is not just a murder case: it's a powder keg. Two young women are murdered on quiet Edisto Beach, an hour southeast of Walterboro, and the killer disappears without a trace. Thirty-four years later, the mystery remains unsolved. Could there be a connection to Stander's case?

Fantastic Murder Mystery set in SC's Lowcountry
Revisado: 08-12-24
I loved this novel by Caroline Cleveland. The twists & turns made kept the reader wondering, and the accuracy of her legal commentary was great too. Caroline & I were in the same law school class at the University of S.C. I know she is an excellent attorney and wonderful person, but I did not know that she is also a gifted attorney. This book is thoroughly enjoyable, and because it was so gripping I listened to almost nonstop. Congratulations Caroline!! So thrilled to know you, & I look forward to reading more of your novels!

Nora Stephens' life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.

A stream of Consciousness that isn't worth hearing
Revisado: 08-01-24
I read reviews of this author's books, and they were good. Bought this book, which was reviewed the most. It's awful. A narcissistic woman rambles and throws up her hyper thoughts. It's exhausting. I am a voracious reader of great books, and if this book is an example of this author's work, I won't read another book by her. How in the world did she receive such good scores? It's truly a mystery, and the narrator's nasal voice only makes the listening experience worse.

Historia
Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Her diary is a record of every birth and death, crime and debacle that unfolds in the close-knit community. Months earlier, Martha documented the details of an alleged rape committed by two of the town’s most respected gentlemen—one of whom has now been found dead in the ice.

Great story & character development
Revisado: 07-20-24
Great story & terrific narrator. I highly recommend this book. When I later learned the story mostly mirrored the life of well known midwife from the 18th century, I loved it even more.

Unlike most Ken Follett books...did not enjoy
Revisado: 07-16-24
I love Ken Follett as an author, but this book was a great disappointment. It lacked depth & character development. It was also difficult to follow at times as an Audible book. While several of Follett's books are my favorites, I cannot recommend this one..at least not as an Audible read.

Historia
It’s been a minute—or five years—since Jordan Vargas last saw his college friends, and twenty-eight years since their graduation from Berkeley when their adult lives officially began. Now Jordan, Jordy, Naomi, Craig, and Marielle find themselves at the brink of a new decade, with all the responsibilities of adulthood, yet no closer to having their lives figured out. Though not for a lack of trying. Over the years they’ve reunited in Big Sur to honor a decades-old pact to throw each other living “funerals,” celebrations to remind themselves that life is worth living.

Not the typical book I enjoy
Revisado: 04-26-24
This book has no depth or interesting storyline. I expected more since a book club recommended it, & my friends & I were disappointed. Almost seems like an era where the people & characters lack deep convictions yet are caught in a complicated friendship none can really figure out. I def do not recommend reading this book.
