It seems like any other day. You wake up, drink a cup of coffee, and head out. But today, when you open your front door, waiting for you is a small wooden box. The contents of this mysterious box tells you the exact number of years you will live. From suburban doorsteps to desert tents, every person on every continent receives the same box. In an instant, the world is thrust into a collective frenzy. Where did these boxes come from? What do they mean? Is there truth to what they promise?

Yikes
Revisado: 11-15-23
The real hero is whoever wrote the summary in the “Title Details” section because the summary sounded great and the story itself is quite the dud. Nothing of consequence happens and the story abruptly ends - this was sadly a complete waste of time, and the narration was a lower standard than what I’m used to on Audible. Save your credit and your time - pass on this book.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Phenomenal!
Revisado: 06-28-22
This is an amazing book, and I’m so thankful Ray Porter was the narrator because he’s one my favorites and knows how to make a book come alive. I appreciate the specific and accurate science the author used because that takes a lot of dedication and research, while also having an empathetic and touching storyline. I wish this book didn’t have to end so I could continue learning about these characters and their adventures. This is one my new favorite books and I highly recommend!

In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child—not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power—the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.

Beautiful Tale
Revisado: 10-28-21
I really enjoyed hearing Greek myths from the perspective of Circe. This was a beautifully written story with details that really made the myths come alive in a unique way. The narrator is also brilliant and the perfect fit for such a goddess. I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys Greek myths or might enjoy how a witch goddess views the ancient world.

Fantastic Story
Revisado: 09-25-21
I really enjoyed this book and the unique character point of view. This is the first book I’ve read with a journal-like frame of reference and I enjoyed this aspect. I appreciate the author’s depth of research that went into this book in order to tell a cohesive story using real events that provides incredible detail as to how people lived through the war. I highly recommend this book!

Historia
In The Unwomanly Face of War, Alexievich chronicles the experiences of the Soviet women who fought on the front lines, on the home front, and in the occupied territories. These women - more than a million in total - were nurses and doctors, pilots, tank drivers, machine-gunners, and snipers. They battled alongside men, and yet, after the victory, their efforts and sacrifices were forgotten.

Incredible Storytelling
Revisado: 09-13-21
I am grateful that this book was translated so that I could learn what the war was like for Soviet women that served in WWII. This is a life changing assessment of the reality these women faced and overcame to reach Victory Day and survive. It is rare to comprehend Soviet and Russian daily reality since so much of the history is discouraged from being shared and discussed, and is unfortunately manipulated as well. This was a refreshing read to hear how these women lived and what impact the war had for many of them long-term.

Historia
There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn’t it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding our discontent—even from ourselves.

Disappointing & Not as Described
Revisado: 09-02-21
This book reads like a diary and may be helpful to some people overcoming substance use and addiction issues, as well as some Gen X people trying to figure out if they are living authentically. This book is not a feminist awakening - it's a personal story about questioning Christianity and a very impressionable person being a late bloomer. This is also a book for anyone who has read Ms. Doyle's other books and wants to know more about her personal life, but it does not hold applicable advice to mass audiences. If you're looking for books that help inspire you to have new insights and grow as a person, there are better options available.

Historia
Polly, Annie, Elizabeth, Catherine, and Mary-Jane are famous for the same thing, though they never met. What they had in common was the year of their murders: 1888. The person responsible was never identified, but the character created by the press to fill that gap has become far more famous than any of these five women. For more than a century, newspapers have been keen to tell us that "the Ripper" preyed on prostitutes. Not only is this untrue, as historian Hallie Rubenhold has discovered, but it has prevented the real stories of these fascinating women from being told.

Incredible Book!
Revisado: 08-31-21
I am very impressed by the author's research and appreciate her taking the time to write such an important book. This book is so helpful in understanding real-world details of these women's lives tragically being ended rather than a scandalous myth. This book is definitely a must read! The reader selected also did a wonderful job and really captures the living history the author has written.

Disappointing + Terrible Reader
Revisado: 08-31-21
***This review includes spoilers and a content warning***
I am unsure why this book has received so many awards as it does not bring anything new to the fantasy genre. The story is about a young teenage girl whose magical powers are not explained well, and continues the stereotype of her almost being raped by a random male character and also treated horribly by the male main character, but still somehow falling in love with him even though his harsh treatment of her never stops. I find it very unacceptable that authors continue to have female characters almost/raped as if this is necessary for their growth as a person/character, especially when it has nothing at all to do with the story.
I also agree with the other reviewers that the narrator is one of the worst I have ever heard. The reader is an older woman that has no inflection and no separate voices for the characters, and is reading the words with random hard stops that are unnatural and very distracting. This reader does not match the young female character and brings no help to this mundane storyline that already has many plot holes.
