A very well written novel with a disappointing ending. I thoroughly enjoyed the brief growth of the character throughout the novel. The pinnacle of the conflict was different and well written. However after that, the story quickly fades away. The author could have left the door open for possible sequels, but instead quickly jumped to the future and a happily ever after ending.

A fresh take on a murder, mister. The storyline follows an interesting path with an ending that could be predicted, but not likely.

The characters are well developed although the connections between them could be developed deeper.

The reading was excellent, with just subtle changes to delineate the different characters. His pacing was consistent to retain engagement.

The secondary conflict would have benefited from being developed further to enhance the suspense and tension. The resolution of the secondary conflict was minimalized and abrupt, even though it played a key part in the resolution of the main plot.

An interesting plot however I found myself wishing that the author Ron Faust went deeper down the rabbit hole. There was another deeper, darker level of the characters that was could have been revealed. The narration by Sean Runnette was moderate; not too much, not too little. The recording of the novel would have been enhanced had the narrator slightly increased his intensity. The ending, albeit appropriate within the context, was a fizzle. Almost as if the author decided he had spent enough time on the book and chose the quickest ending.

An interesting plot enhanced by familiarity with the location. The characters are well developed and brought to life by the narration. Looking forward to another novel in this series.

An interesting plot with enhanced geographical recognition for that last little “bonus”. Reed Farrel Coleman’s Where It Hurts is a moderately lengthy listen, augmented with local knowledge of New York’s Long Island. The main character is recognizable as any man and his situation, albeit specific to him, evokes empathy and sympathy.

An “ok” novel that will soon fade in the memory. It had an interesting plot, but not engaging nor exciting. Character development was basic. The pace was moderate. The climax was anti-climactic. In fact, I missed it the first time. The resolution was irrelevant as I hadn’t developed any empathy for the characters. Within a week this novel will have been forgotten.

Well performed, this is a new-to-me sci-fi theme, taking a common scenario and flipping it. As a book it would be an easy read, yet the obvious cliché plot twists were thankfully absent. The pacing was consistent and enough to keep the listener engaged. I enjoyed this book enough to look for the sequel.

A good book. Not great, not memorable. But good. After reading The Substitution Order I was enthused to read more of Martin Clark’s novels. The Legal Limit was not a strong choice for a follow up novel. The plot lacks intricacies and climax. The story lacks adventure or suspense. The characters don’t invoke a connection or empathy. The prologue felt like it was stapled on as a wrap up; not adding much to the resolution.

As a first foray into prepper novels, this was a home run. Not having any expectations, I found the book to be enlightening and educational. The pace was perfect; Quick enough to maintain interest while paced to retain character development. Acquiring it as a trilogy was perfect, as I could not wait to go to the next book. The characters are realistic and developed. The plot is not predictable. And as a first glance into the prepper mentality, it feels wholistic and unbiased. Christopher Lane performs an excellent reading, with his finely tuned variance in speech patterns to assist with identifying characters. Highly recommend.

Not for me. What started out as an interesting novel evolved into a series of action clichés linked together. Although well written, it felt like the author was trying to put too many action sequences into the story in preparation of making it into a movie. Knowing firsthand how inaccurate and poorly researched one action sequence was had me questioning the accuracy of other sequences. And while I enjoyed Scott Brick’s narration of the John Deal series, I felt this narration was too much of a stage play, pushing individual character voices too far. The choices of voices for the characters was distracting. I prefer stories that deeply develop characters, locations and the plot, where is this novel had the presence of a movie treatment.
