Historia
Jason Walker has often wished his life could be a bit less predictable--until a routine day at the zoo ends with Jason suddenly transporting from the hippo tank to a place unlike anything he's ever seen. In the past, the people of Lyrian welcomed visitors from the Beyond, but attitudes have changed since the wizard emperor Maldor rose to power. The brave resistors who opposed the emperor have been bought off or broken, leaving a realm where fear and suspicion prevail.

Awesome Book
Revisado: 06-08-24
I love this book. I’ve read it and listened to it multiple times. The plot is fascinating and there’s plenty of action to keep things interesting. Brandon Mull does a nice job of character development and describing scenery and context, so you can really envision and understand what is going on.

Super Helpful
Revisado: 11-04-21
As a procrastinator, I found this book extremely helpful. I was able to put the ideas such as “when can I start”, “do it in crayon”, and “the reverse calendar” into practice quickly and have seen positive results. They also help me when I find myself feeling overwhelmed and not knowing where to start.

Expert performance guru Anders Ericsson has made a career of studying chess champions, violin virtuosos, star athletes, and memory mavens. Peak condenses three decades of original research to introduce an incredibly powerful approach to learning that is fundamentally different from the way people traditionally think about acquiring a skill.

Such a long book for so little information
Revisado: 04-08-21
The author makes a compelling argument that deliberate practice (not natural talent) is the main factor in becoming an expert. Repeated studies are documented proving this point.
The author also talks about how deliberate practice develops mental representations that allow experts to do things that other people can’t do.
My main complaint is that too much time is spent giving repeated examples proving the point that practice (not talent) is what makes experts so amazing.
Not enough time is spent teaching how to do it.
Hours into the book we are finally given a definition of what deliberate practice is vs less effective practice methods.
Mental representations are constantly talked about. But the concept is not explained.
I find the book inspiring because it teaches me that I can become good/excellent at anything I am willing to really work hard at.
I find it frustrating that the book only teaches some high-level ideas that could have been summarized quickly.
I wanted more “this is how you do it”, “this is how you apply the concepts in this situation” kind of information.
I will have to do my own research to figure that out.

From the visionary head of Google's innovative People Operations comes a groundbreaking inquiry into the philosophy of work - and a blueprint for attracting the most spectacular talent to your business and ensuring that they succeed. "We spend more time working than doing anything else in life. It's not right that the experience of work should be so demotivating and dehumanizing". So says Laszlo Bock, former head of People Operations at the company that transformed how the world interacts with knowledge.

Nothing special
Revisado: 03-07-17
Jay Elliot shares his biography of working closely with Steve Jobs at Apple for many years. While Jay offers a unique vantage point on how Steve Jobs behaved, the mistakes and lessons he learned, and what is unique about the Apple culture, I found nothing worth taking notes on to apply in my own life.
This book is an excellent documentary. It does not provide leadership insights that I find unique and useful.
