Historia
Kristin Newman spent her 20s and 30s dealing with the stresses of her high-pressure job as a television comedy writer, and the anxieties of watching most of her friends get married and start families while she wrestled with her own fear of both. Not ready to settle down and yet loathe to become a sad-sack single girl, Kristin instead started traveling the world, often alone, for a few months each year, falling madly in love with attractive locals who provided moments of the love she wanted without the cost of the freedom she needed.

A book for adventurous free spirited women! Finally! A protagonist that speaks to me!
Revisado: 01-04-19
First off - the negative reviews about this book are confusing to me... This is a TRAVEL MEMOIRE! What did you expect? Why pick up a book like this? Im sorry that you couldn’t connect with it but there are many single women who really do live this way! (Like me!) The book was most likely a mash up of several travel journals narratives over the course of 10+ years, hence why it jumps around! Maybe your bad review stems from a desire to pick on older, single women who lived an unorthodox lifestyle because you are a simple, unadventurous, monotonous person who has never stepped foot out of your comfort zone, or had a fleeting romance on a beach in a foreign country... road motorcycles through SE Asia or peaked a mountain in Nepal. As a fellow female globe-trotter who works really hard to afford a similar love for travel I devoured this book!! Reading the intimate details about Kristin’s adventures, meet ups and sexcapades all over the world resonated with me. It was refreshing to read a voice that’s more confident and unapologetic for living her life the way she wanted. It was raw and romantic and fed my wanderlust. This book showed me there ARE women like me out there traveling and growing in all directions outside of our social constructs and expectations to be maternal homemakers. I wish I could meet the author and swap stories. If you’re a fellow female traveler in your 30s with similar experience, you’ll love this. If you’re a conservative, reserved, simple, easy- going person, that only ventures to Cancun once every 3 years, yay for you! Thats your story. There’s nothing wrong with your way of living, but... This is probably not the book for you!

A romantic adventure for ocean lovers!
Revisado: 10-13-18
I loved this book! Coming from someone who has once had her own South American romance and who loves the ocean it was a perfect fit! It hooked me with its optimism and youthful approach to adventure. I appreciated how the protagonist is portrayed as someone who is fearful of the ocean and full of worry, then you watch her grow and gain experience and courage. Even through the sailing challenges and the absolute stupidity and stubbornness of Ivan at times, it made me appreciate the strength you gain traveling abroad with a loved one. It’s an easy, light, entertaining listen that’ll have you longing to be with them sailing the South Pacific!
