What a heartbreaking story and to learn the basis for it. I suspect there is much going on under our own noses that is being hushed and covered. Would we believe it if it were told us today? The countless lives altered forever and families broken.

The narrator was superb. It could not have been read any better. The emotion, tone, tamber, all of it. Loved it. A must read.

What drew me in was the intense suffering (mentally, physically, emotionally), incredibly unity and dogged will to survive. It seems surreal to imagine anyone surmounting the odds they faced.

This book was recomended to me by a friend. I could not get into the story after trying for 2 hours. The narrator didn't help with his monotone voice and cadence which does follow punctuation and flow very well. IMO this book is for pre-teens and teens.

I really tried to get into this book but had to give it up. The writing is unskilled and would be a book more suited for 12-16 year olds.

I loved this book. It really spelled it all out and did it in very logical arguments. The data is there. I know data can be manipulated to suit one's purposes but it seemed rather thorough. I enjoyed how Mr Beck didn't follow party lines all the time and outlined things that both republican and democrat presidents did wrong in bringing us to the brink of financial collapse. I enjoyed hearing the pep talk about how the federal government should not be telling us much of anything yet we seem to be complacent in letting them take all the power they want. I was also delighted to finally hear someone else bring up the constitutionality of property taxes. If you think about it, you can own your home but because you can never really own the land, you by default don't/can't own your home because it can be taken by the government for failure to pay your property tax. It is a crock. Anyway, I would encourage you to all read this book. It changed my views and opinions and it might open your eyes a little wider and light a small flame under your ???

I started this book at the recommendation of a friend. The narrator is perfect. The author starts out by stating that he writes thrillers and that this book is a departure from that genre, that it took him more than 10 years to write and brags about how he wanted to write a masterpiece to paraphrase his comments. I was appalled, when, partway through the book the author starts describing in vivid detail the private parts of a woman and later that of a man. He persists in describing in detail, lustful thoughts of some characters in a way that makes you wonder what the author was doing or thinking when he wrote it. Is the author writing out his own fantasies? I was hopeful that the book would improve and since several of the characters had already had their bodies revealed to the reader in explicit depth that no more would be needed. This was not the case. It continues throughout the book including a very disturbing rape scene of one of the main characters. I was shocked, dismayed, disappointed and deeply disturbed by the manner in which the rape was described. Many a Great author can portray their thoughts and desires to the reader without stooping to the baseness that this author has chosen to entertain. The author describes how he wanted to write a great book. This book, while the plot is exciting, will forever have a place in my mind as one of the worst books I have ever read. I am ashamed to say that I have read this book. Ken Follett is a disgusting pervert and is far from being the great writer he aspires to be. Great authors don't write books like this one. They are above it.
