Historia
Things are going well for Jane Murphy, or so it seems. She’s making it in New York, a sort of wunderkind at the social media marketing startup where she works. She’s put an experimental writer, Jeremy Miller, on the map by helping him concoct a viral internet novel, told in fragments through various fake social media accounts. But privately, Jane feels trapped, ruled by her routines and her compulsions, caught up in an endless cycle of soothing and punishing herself.

Not One Likable Character
Revisado: 03-26-25
I am amazed at my self-discipline in finishing this worthless assembly of words. I couldn’t find anything interesting or redemptive about the book. I kept hoping, but my take away is that these lost hours can never be regained. What a waste of time!

Revisado: 09-28-23
An eye opening record of Ms.Hutchinson’s infatuation with the Trump administration and her eventual heartbreak when she views the events surrounding January 6, 2021. She gives insightful details about the staff who played a part in the events of that day. I consider this the story of a brave American hero.

Love More Joe!
Revisado: 08-25-23
I think I’ve read every Ledger book plus the other series by Jonathan Maberry. He’s my favorite author and Joe’s my favorite hero! This was a much darker story with so much going on, and I couldn’t put it down. Ray Porter is AMAZING and he brings these characters to life. He’s always worthy of five stars, even if he’s only reading the newspaper!

Too much repetition
Revisado: 08-06-23
The book isn’t terrible but oh my, the author repeated the same facts ad nauseam, particularly in the first chapters. It was predictable, but I finished it, and most enjoyed the descriptions of the store. It brought back images of the Mr. Selfridge series.

Started off slow
Revisado: 07-09-23
I really considered giving up on this book, and I’ll finish almost anything. The narrator was so hard to tolerate. However I stuck with it and either she got better or I learned to tolerate her. The story wasn’t always as predictable as I expected, and I finished it. I even found the Korean music Idols interesting as I hadn’t a clue about their music or performers. It’s not at the top of my favorites list but it was better than I expected when I began listening. You might really enjoy it…

I felt like this mystery needed lots of editing. It was all over the place and I wasn’t really invested in any of the characters. You could see the possibility of a good plot, bbut it never really coalesced into a story that made you care.

Historia
Women warriors planned and led slave revolts on slave ships during the Middle Passage. They fought their enslavers throughout the Americas, and then they were erased from history. Wake tells the story of Dr. Rebecca Hall, a historian, granddaughter of slaves, and a woman haunted by the legacy of slavery. The accepted history of slave revolts has always said that enslaved women were not involved, but Rebecca decides to look deeper.

Confusing and Bad Sound
Revisado: 03-08-23
I found this recording confusing with poor sound quality. I applaud the story being told and was saddened by it and the continuing bigotry shown to blacks in America. However I think this presentation needed more organization, editing, and better sound production.

I’m a fan!
Revisado: 12-07-22
I cannot imagine not enjoying every book written by Jonathan Maberry and narrated by Ray Porter. This series is certainly set in a very different time than my favorite kickass, wisecracking Joe Ledger, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next book. This author and narrator are at the top of my list!

Terrible Narration!
Revisado: 06-07-22
I’ve listened to every Jodi Taylor book I could get my hands on. I love her stories. The excitement mixed with her killer sense of humor make for fantastic stories. They always make me want to take an extended trip to the UK. Then came this new series. Book one was a five star read for me, and I don’t give that rating to many. Next came Book Two and when I heard the first words spoken I wanted to cover my ears and shriek. Why oh why, did you settle for this narrator? She’s just much too, shall I say mature, rather than old, for the part. It just took so much pleasure from the listen that I nearly quit right then. I did get through it but with little enthusiasm. I sincerely hope sometime in the future you will take the time for a “do-over” and correct this insult to an otherwise great book. I see that she is not narrating the next book in this series, and that gives me hope for the additional stories I hope will follow.

Predictable!
Revisado: 05-28-19
A simplistic, unreal story with a female role - read by a man. Every sentence and thought was connected by the word “and.” I was more entertained wondering how many times it was used than by the story. I’m not sure this book had more than Danielle Steel’s name on it. If she actually wrote any of it, she might be ready to unplug the laptop!
