Historia
In 1985, Edward Shank famously gunned down the Beacon Hill Butcher, ending the serial killer’s reign of terror over the city of Seattle. But now in his eighties, Edward’s action-packed glory days are long behind him. The decorated former Seattle police chief has given up his high-maintenance Victorian home to his grandson Matt for a quiet life at the nearby Sweetbay Village Retirement Residence, where mac-n-cheese Wednesdays have become the highlight of his week.

Revisado: 11-06-24
This book was just released, but I could swear I have listened to this very book before. Is this a re-release? I’m very confused.

Historia
Years before the name Alex Murdaugh was splashed across every major media outlet in America, local South Carolina journalist Mandy Matney had an instinct that something wasn’t right in the Lowcountry. The powerful Murdaugh dynasty had dominated rural South Carolina for generations. No one dared to cross them.

Annoying Misandrist!
Revisado: 09-24-24
I thought this book would dive deep into the collapse of the Murdaugh dynasty. It doesn’t. If you have seen any of the true crime specials on this family then you have all the information that you would get from this book. I am over halfway through, but about to quit because I am so sick of her bashing white males. I am a white female and it’s gotten tedious. This book is about the authors life while she is investigating the murders and how much she hates white men, especially of the south. They can’t ALL be bad, but she would have you think so.

Nell St. John is not living the life she imagined for herself - not by a long shot. She was once a glamorous young actress married to influential director, Marlow St. John. Together, the A-list couple was the toast of the town. But then Marlow’s star fades and tensions at home skyrocket. Marlow takes up with another woman and abandons Nell, leaving her to pay the bills and raise their two boisterous young children. A string of attractive suitors is not the answer to her lack of fulfillment, but what is?

It seemed to go nowhere
Revisado: 09-15-24
Full disclosure, I didn’t finish the book, but I listened to many hours of it and it just didn’t seem to go anywhere. The narrator was terrible, she was just very annoying. I will be avoiding her narrations in the future. If I heard her call a boutique a “bowtique” one more time I was going to pull my hair out.

On an ordinary Monday morning, Ariel Cafferty's phone buzzes with a disturbing text message. Something’s happened. I need to see you. Meet me under the candelabra tree ASAP. The words would be jarring from anyone, but the sender is the only man she ever loved. And it's been several years since she learned he died. Seeing Drew’s name pop up is heart-stopping. Ariel’s gut says it can’t be real. But she goes to the tree anyway. She has to. Nobody shows.

I am so glad I listened to this book! It’s been sitting in my library for a couple of weeks. I wish I had listened to it as soon as I purchased it! The characters are extremely well developed and the narrators did a great job of bringing them to life. I highly recommend this book!

Her hard work and immaculate planning have paid off now that she’s a prominent socialite, but that doesn’t mean there haven’t been bumps along the way. Less than a year since her husband Jackson’s tax-evasion scandal, Amber is still at the top of the Bishops Harbor community pecking order, free to do as she wishes while Jackson sits in prison. But that freedom is quickly coming to an end. With Jackson getting released from prison, Amber’s time—and money—is vanishing.

The first book was going to be a tough act to follow, but the sisters definitely did it! I felt like I was going into it cold as I couldn’t really remember the details of the first book when I first started listening, but they did a great job of filling in with backstory so it was easy to get caught up and sucked in! I loved the direction they took the story. They definitely left me wanting more!

Yawn…
Revisado: 06-26-24
I have really tried to get into this book, but I just can’t. I’ve tried to figure out why because I have enjoyed this author in the past and bought this book w no qualms. I think the problem is the narrator. She is so bland that she’s inhibiting my ability to invest in the characters. The characters feel bland. I tried to return the book, but my determination to push through in hopes of feeling engaged, got me and I’ve listened too long to return. I’m curious for other reviews because I’m wondering, is it just me?

I really enjoyed this book. I was drawn in by the characters right from the start. The story was well written. I binged it in a weekend as I found myself just wanting to know what happened next. The narration was perfection as always, with Cassandra Campbell. Definitely recommend!

Revisado: 08-10-23
I have listened to several Lisa Jewell books and enjoyed them all, but this one is so unbelievably good! To think I almost returned it, because it said it was a full cast with music. I generally don’t like books like that, but this book is done extremely well. I highly highly recommend.

Overhyped
Revisado: 04-11-23
You know when someone tells you you have to see a movie and you go see the movie and you have such high expectations that you’re kind of let down? That’s how I feel about this book. I think it would have been much more entertaining to me, had I not read the glowing review from the audible editor on my weekly audible edit. I enjoyed the book okay, but it was not the thriller I was expecting. I will say I did not see the end coming, that was a fun twist. All in all, OK book but by no means not a can’t-put-it-down book. Narration was great!

I loved this book
Revisado: 04-26-22
When I first started this book, I thought oh no, I’m not going to be able to understand it because one of the readers was very heavily French accented English. I quickly got used to it and equally quickly fell in love with the character. All of the characters in this book are very well developed and I was deeply invested in each of them. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and look forward to future books by her.
