After a slow start, the novel sweeps you up in the heartfelt story of a mother sharing the painful story of her past in Leningrad during the war with her two daughters. The ending is an emotional redemption.

As someone who suffers from chronic migraine, this book was so helpful. I think that most people who suffer from flares can easily get into a neuroplastic pain cycle. I loved listening to Alan Gordon patiently explain his findings about neuroplastic pain, the techniques to help alleviate this type of pain and the fear cycle, and other patients’ stories who have recovered. It was very much like listening to a therapist and I know that I’ll go back to certain sections for repeated listening. Highly recommend to all those who struggle with pain of any kind.

I have always loved Anne and have read the series more than a dozen times. Rachel McAdams was a perfect narrator and I looked forward to listening every day. (I’m just sorry that she hasn’t recorded the entire series.) This would be a perfect introduction to the books for anyone discovering Anne for the first time. And for those who love her, it will make you smile all over again.

This is one of those books that is a good story that keeps you interested from start to finish. I wish I had read it in print because I didn’t care for the voices of the main narrators.

Emily Henry is officially my new favorite summer author. The friendship turned romance between Poppy and Alex was sweet and funny. Both characters are adorable and I laughed out loud at the sarcastic humor so many times. If you love traveling or families that drive you crazy, this book captures those details perfectly. Of course Julia Whelan’s narration makes every story shine. I love how her voices make me laugh and cry in equal measure. You won’t regret listening to this book!

This was everything I could have wanted it to be. The story is a perfectly 2020 teen love story. It has the predictable high school drama, but with fresh twists and turns that will challenge your thinking and make you smile. The narration was outstanding and I’m so glad I listened instead of reading it myself. Highly recommend!

The narration made me love this book more than I would have if I read it myself. The “Minnesota” accent added just the right flavor to the story these unique, tough and hard-working women. I didn’t expect to love a book centered around beer, but the strongly written characters captivated me. And that ending...so perfect.

Good premise, poor execution

Since this was free I gave it a try. It had an interesting premise, but the execution was a mess. The alternating narrators—good idea. The choice of historical moment—good idea But the writing was full of cliche descriptions, it was overly dramatic, and the swearing by one of the minor characters in the last third felt misplaced. Just not a strong historical fiction piece of wring. Plus, Lizxie’s narrator was so dramatic...ugh...

Like a sassy Hallmark Christmas movie

If you’re a fan of Hallmark Christmas movies, you’ll appreciate this short novel. It’s a lot more sexy and irreverent than the wholesome Hallmark fare, but it definitely had the right amount of coincidences and cheesy lines that make Christmas romance stories a guilty pleasure.

I can’t recommend this book enough. The intertwined stories of Maya, Grace and Joaquin made me laugh, cry and root for the happiness of these fictional kids. I don’t think it matters if you are a teen or adult, this YA story is powerfully told and will warm your heart. There is so much to enjoy about the power of love, loyalty, and the resiliency of families. (And as always, Julia Whelan is a masterful reader. The way she captures the personalities of so many characters by slight changes of her is amazing and addicting to listen to.)
