Historia
At its height in 660 BCE, the kingdom of Assyria stretched from the Mediterranean Sea to the Persian Gulf. It was the first empire the world had ever seen. Here, historian Eckart Frahm tells the epic story of Assyria and its formative role in global history. Assyria’s wide-ranging conquests have long been known from the Hebrew Bible and later Greek accounts. But nearly two centuries of research now permit a rich picture of the Assyrians and their empire beyond the battlefield.

awesome undead, idiotic humans
Revisado: 03-13-24
well as most reviews say the scenes with OBR involved are awesome and really brings you into their world. I would have loved to seen more of Lykas living with them.
the other side of this story involving the humans is just bad. I get the fact these people have been cut off from other civilizations for a 1000 years but wow do they make some rash decisions.
overall a decent story but it feels rushed and you never really believe the decisions the humans make. the bonereaper characters steal the show though and if you are interested in seeing life ruled by the bonereapers its worth picking up

When the son of Baron Lothar Aquilena of the Border Princes is taken captive, he calls in a debt of honour owed to him by Duke Carrard of Quenelles – once his brother-in-arms and now his bitter rival. This uneasy alliance of warrior knights mounts a dangerous expedition into the lifeless desolation beyond the badlands to a forgotten realm cursed to know neither water nor shade. The baron's son is held captive in the Land of the Dead, and the kings and queens of old do not rest easy in their tombs.

a "by the book" fantasy story.
Revisado: 02-06-24
well lords of the lance holds few surprises if you have read any previous warhammer fantasy title. this is a good thing for people not used to the setting and was probably why they went with that direction being the first book in "the old world".
another thing, I am sure a lot of people will be mad about female and handicap knights but I think it really shows how far the nations of the old fantasy had fallen by the end times. all of these characters I felt are done well that if you give it a chance you won't be taken out of the story.
finally my biggest problem with the book was the ending. it feels super rushed, cheesy and leaves a lot unresolved. i really hope that we get a sequel so we can see what happens to these characters I sunk 12 hours into.
overall lords of the lance is a good book to get into "the old world". just don't expect it to knock you off off your feet.

Historia
For more than 1,000 years, Christians and Muslims lived side by side, sometimes at peace and sometimes at war. When Christian armies seized Jerusalem in 1099, they began the most notorious period of conflict between the two religions. Depending on who you ask, the fall of the holy city was either an inspiring legend or the greatest of horrors. In Crusaders, Dan Jones interrogates the many sides of the larger story, charting a deeply human and avowedly pluralist path through the crusading era.

a great 101 on the topic of crusades
Revisado: 01-11-23
this book was a surprisingly great little read. it is not the most in-depth telling of the crusades but it gives a great broad overview using characters from real life make the story entertaining. stay for the end because the epilogue is also great. 11/10

Historia
Of all the Emperor’s immortal sons, the primarchs, it is Konrad Curze whose legend is the darkest. Born in the shadows of Nostramo, a world of murderers, thieves and worse, is it any surprise that he became the figure of dread known only as the Night Haunter? Heed now the tragic story of the creature Konrad Curze, master of the Night Lords Legion, of how he became a monster and a weapon of terror. He who once served the Imperium saw the truth in a maddening universe and the hypocrisy of a loveless father, and embraced the only thing that made any sense - darkness.

great deathguard book
Revisado: 11-15-20
for those looking to learn more about the deathguard primarch mortarion and his struggle this is the place to go. the arc with malcador is also intriguing but sometimes I feel it detracts from the excellent backstory of mortarion. finally the ending is satisfying but seemed rushed. I really wanted to see more of an emphasis on the death guards corruption and what it was like for the rest of the legion going through the crucible and not just mortarion.
