good diverse stories and thoughts
Revisado: 02-26-25
the book is in the vanguard of technology and ethics. It's a version of black mirror going into way better defined details and provocations. Its also a dive into the past and how history is defined in a fluid manner. it touches race, xenophobia and gender gap too.
It's for sure a whole lot, so it took me really a lot of effort and concentration for an audible. So, I'd recommend to buy physical. cheers

Historia
Instead of being merely the receiver of the parents' psychological and spiritual legacy, children function as ushers of the parents' development. Parents unwittingly pass on an inheritance of psychological pain and emotional shallowness. To handle the behavior that results, traditional books on parenting abound with clever techniques for control and quick fixes for dysfunction. In Dr. Shefali Tsabary's conscious approach to parenting, however, children serve as mirrors of their parents' forgotten self.

that title would benefit from a professional narrator. the intonations make it all anyone does feel wrong and stupid, and the wise advise noble and obvious. Not didactic as I expected.

Historia
In this book, Lee McIntyre argues that what distinguishes science from its rivals is what he calls "the scientific attitude" - caring about evidence and being willing to change theories on the basis of new evidence. The history of science is littered with theories that were scientific but turned out to be wrong; the scientific attitude reveals why even a failed theory can help us to understand what is special about science.

made for non scientists
Revisado: 07-05-23
It starts good. then when it goes to the science it becomes a show of extrapolation.
Sadly I couldn't stand the lack of controls and limitations on the experimental interpretation of the results.
I've pretty much heard concluding that people who have the resilience or are not too tired to endure the exercises daily for periods of time have lower attention decay.
hear me out, I'm not saying mindfulness can't improve many aspects of living in the present, but the controls must be carefully executed, and interpretations limited to what the experiments can actually tell.

I loved it. As a big butts lover, I picked up this book not knowing what to expect just by name. I was positively surprised about the research, the psychology, the non binary approaches, the feminism, pop culture breakdown and even biology teachings of it.

Historia
Forty years ago Israeli psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky wrote a series of breathtakingly original studies undoing our assumptions about the decision-making process. Their papers showed the ways in which the human mind erred systematically when forced to make judgments about uncertain situations. Their work created the field of behavioral economics, revolutionized Big Data studies, advanced evidence-based medicine, led to a new approach to government regulation, and made Michael Lewis' work possible.

amazing book
Revisado: 07-04-22
this book tells the story of Thinking Fast and Slow without telling the specifics that might be a bit too much for some. Importantly, placing things into context and perspective is amazing.
Kanehman himself recommended it to me and it was a great recommendation I'd like to pass along.

Beginning with opium, the “joy plant,” which has been used for 10,000 years, Thomas Hager tells a captivating story of medicine. His subjects include the largely forgotten female pioneer who introduced smallpox inoculation to Britain, the infamous knockout drops, the first antibiotic, which saved countless lives, the first antipsychotic, which helped empty public mental hospitals, Viagra, statins, and the new frontier of monoclonal antibodies. This is a deep, wide-ranging, and wildly entertaining book.

Historia
The world-renowned philosopher and author of the best-selling Justice explores the central question of our time: What has become of the common good? World-renowned philosopher Michael J. Sandel argues that to overcome the crises that are upending our world, we must rethink the attitudes toward success and failure that have accompanied globalization and rising inequality. Sandel shows the hubris a meritocracy generates among the winners and the harsh judgment it imposes on those left behind, and traces the dire consequences across a wide swath of American life.

Historia
In recent years, malaria has emerged as a cause célèbre for voguish philanthropists. Bill Gates, Bono, and Laura Bush are only a few of the personalities who have lent their names - and opened their pocketbooks - in hopes of curing the disease. Still, in a time when every emergent disease inspires waves of panic, why aren’t we doing more to eradicate one of our oldest foes? And how does a parasitic disease that we’ve known how to prevent for more than a century still infect 500 million people every year, killing nearly 1 million of them?
