Historia
In this intimate and open account—nothing like any rock-and-roll memoir you’ve ever read—Alex Van Halen shares his personal story of family, friendship, music and brotherly love in a remarkable tribute to his beloved brother and band mate. In his rough yet sweet voice, Alex recounts the brothers’ childhood, first in the Netherlands and then in working class Pasadena, California, with an itinerant musician father and a very proper Indonesian-born mother.

Historia
The Artist’s Way is the seminal book on the subject of creativity. An international best seller, millions of fans have found it to be an invaluable guide to living the artist’s life. Still as vital today - or perhaps even more so - than it was when it was first published one decade ago, it is a powerfully provocative and inspiring work. In a new introduction to the book, Julia Cameron reflects upon the impact of The Artist’s Way and describes the work she has done during the last decade and the new insights into the creative process that she has gained.

This audiobook could have got its message across in 15 minutes instead of 10 hours. If you suffer from imposter syndrome, if you need a kick in the pants, if you’re not productive, this book may be for you. Conversely, if you are an artist and are able to produce work, this book may have low limited value (if any) for you. If you're expecting insights on artistic productivity that is evidence based and data driven, you won't find it here. None of the successful artists I've worked with throughout my life use the limited methods endorsed by the book. I am a working musician of 40 years and found this book a waste of time. You may find mental relief incorporating some of the models described in the book, but if you think they'll boost your artistic capabilities, good luck to you.

Historia
As cofounder of KISS, America's number one gold-record award-winning group of all time, Simmons knows the thrill and seduction of power firsthand. But gold records alone don't equal power. The decisions you make once you attain a certain level of success are what separate the pretenders from the pantheon. Inspired by Niccolo Machiavelli's The Prince, Simmons offers his unique take on the dynamics of power in every realm of life, from the bedroom to the boardroom, to the world of rock, celebrity, and social media, to politics.

Too general for my tastes
Revisado: 10-05-24
Topics overall are interesting, however, I found the examples (at least as they came through on the audiobook), general and too often it felt like a small sample size of something was looked upon to convey a conclusion about what works or not relative to the topic under discussion. Someone recommended this book to me - I won't be recommending it forward.

Historia
In 2003, music journalist Philip Clark was granted unparalleled access to jazz legend Dave Brubeck. Over the course of 10 days, he shadowed the Dave Brubeck Quartet during their extended British tour, recording an epic interview with the bandleader. Brubeck opened up as never before, disclosing his unique approach to jazz; the heady days of his "classic" quartet in the 1950s-'60s; hanging out with Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong, and Miles Davis; and the many controversies that had dogged his 66-year-long career.

Over emphasis on describing the music
Revisado: 04-08-24
I didn't find this biography to be as inspiring as I had hoped it would be. The author tries so hard to put the essence of Brubeck‘s musicianship and music performances into words. The struggles and accomplishments of Brubeck get lost as a result. Too much emphasis on describing the music versus discussing the musician for my taste.

Outdated and lacking evidence
Revisado: 03-20-24
Someone recommended this book - but honestly, I don't think it's worth the time. At this time, a number of the examples are outdated. It's largely an opinion based work, and while the broad concepts and generalities may have some universal truths, nearly everything mentioned and advocated is unsupported by compelling evidence. There are better books in the genre.

Historia
Anna was never anything like those "real" runners on telly, but when she read about New Zealand’s 3,000-kilometer-long Te Araroa Trail, she began to wonder...perhaps being a "real" runner was overrated. Maybe she could just run it anyway? The Pants of Perspective is a witty, colorful, and at times painfully raw account of a journey to the edge of what a woman believes herself to be capable of. It is a coming-of-age story that will lead you on a roller-coaster ride through fear, vulnerability, courage, and failure.

This travelogue follows Rick and his travel companion Peter along 2,400 miles through eight states from Chicago to Los Angeles as they discover the old Route 66. With surprising and obscure stories about Route 66 personalities like Woody Guthrie, John Steinbeck, Al Capone, Salvador Dali, Dorothea Lange, Cyrus Avery (the Father of Route 66), the Harvey Girls, Mickey Mantle, and Bobby Troup (songwriter of “(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66”), Antonson’s fresh perspective reads like an easy drive down a forgotten road.
