Historia
Hazel Sinnett is a lady who wants to be a surgeon more than she wants to marry. Jack Currer is a resurrection man who’s just trying to survive in a city where it’s too easy to die. When the two of them have a chance encounter outside the Edinburgh Anatomist’s Society, Hazel thinks nothing of it at first. But after she gets kicked out of renowned surgeon Dr. Beecham’s lectures for being the wrong gender, she realizes that her new acquaintance might be more helpful than she first thought.

Enjoyable with a fun bonus at the end!
Revisado: 01-20-22
This is like Pride and Prejudice meets Frankenstein. Definitely captures the atmosphere of Edinburgh and the inner thoughts of a precocious young girl. I enjoyed learning about old ways of surgery (like keeping hay around to catch the blood). The framing device of the encyclopedia and newspaper articles was very well-thought out. The narrator was lovely and there’s a great little chat at the end between the narrator and author! Looking forward to a sequel.

Pretty goof YA fiction
Revisado: 11-19-19
Although I didn’t find the book satisfying, it is one of the better YA books I’ve read. A few plot lines seem forced and some events are too “convenient” to be believable.

So boring, couldn’t finish
Revisado: 11-19-19
This reads like a diary of an average 21-year old girl. I’m halfway through the book and nothing has happened. I can’t go on any longer. I usually finish audiobooks because I pay full price and like to also keep a list of finished books to look back on at the end of this year. It’s rare that I give up halfway. But this is truly threadbare.

Historia
When New Yorker Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home and quality time with the man she hopes to marry. But Nick has failed to give his girlfriend a few key details. One, that his childhood home looks like a palace; two, that he grew up riding in more private planes than cars; and three, that he just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor.

This book is mostly a list of expensive things and designer names. The actual story, content, and dialogue is barely there.

Wonderfully written and read!

If you could sum up The Dr. Pepper Prophecies in three words, what would they be?
If I could sum up Dr. Pepper's Prophecies in three words, they would be: insightful, funny, and delightful!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Since this story was told from Mel's point of view, I of course have to pick Mel. I loved the way her thought process worked.
What about Elan O'Connor’s performance did you like?
I loved how the narrator was able to embody every single character so well. Scottish, British, male, female, young, old - whatever! I instantly knew who was talking. It's like she has a bank of characters that she can just plug in at any time.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
When life gets you down, there's always chocolate.
Any additional comments?
Absolutely loved the audiobook! I highly recommend it!
