Historia
In a sleepy village in the Shire, a young hobbit is entrusted with an immense task. He must make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ruling Ring of Power - the only thing that prevents the Dark Lord Sauron’s evil dominion. Thus begins J. R. R. Tolkien’s classic tale of adventure, which continues in The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

Andy Serkis is brilliant!
Revisado: 01-12-25
In this reading Mr Serkis proves himself a tremendous narrator. Many actors can read character parts but fail in reading book narratives with any feeling. By contrast Andy Serkis actually increased my love for LotR by his excellence.

Historia
As new climate disasters remind us every day, our world is not stable—and it is changing in ways that expose the deep dysfunction of our relationship with water. But as we grapple with extreme weather, a hard truth is emerging: our development, including concrete infrastructure designed to control water, is actually exacerbating our problems. Because sooner or later, water always wins. In this quietly radical book, science journalist Erica Gies introduces us to innovators in what she calls the Slow Water movement who start by asking a revolutionary question: What does water want?

Bright Present & Future
Revisado: 09-23-24
Both reader and writer made for an enjoyable and worthy listen. The book weaves together visits to water projects and efforts around the world that are showcases for how humans can work well with water instead of continuing practices that have resulted in suffering for people, plants and animals. Noteworthy is that these achievements are ALREADY in play…not some pipe dream or drawing board plan for a maybe future. As such this is emotionally supportive unlike so many environmental books which have left me with doom and gloom. Highly recommended! BTW I only gave stars because I am stingy about 5 stars.

Historia
Meet Toadling. On the day of her birth, she was stolen from her family by the fairies, but she grew up safe and loved in the warm waters of faerieland. Once an adult though, the fae ask a favor of Toadling: return to the human world and offer a blessing of protection to a newborn child. Simple, right? If only. Centuries later, a knight approaches a towering wall of brambles, where the thorns are as thick as your arm and as sharp as swords. He's heard there's a curse here that needs breaking, but it's a curse Toadling will do anything to uphold.

“I’m sorry” ad infinitum
Revisado: 09-04-24
T.Kingfisher writes beautiful and enjoyable stories and this is no exception. Her twist on the age-old damsel-in-castle fable is also a delight. But each of the main characters speaks or thinks “I’m sorry” so many times in the tale’s short length that it became irritating. I like that the characters in her books are self-abasing rather than arrogant but this frequently becomes too much.

The first book in a series featuring characters from the D&D core rules. The already familiar characters and D&D-related content will also make this series very approachable to current players.

Khristine Hvam and T. Kingfisher are a fabulous team
Revisado: 08-07-24
Khristine Hvam is splendid in her narration of Kingfisher’s fine fantasy. This might be a romantasy but the balance of romance with excellent characters, twisting plot and gufffaw-worthy humor make for a great story overall.

Even Better
Revisado: 06-23-24
I was hesitant to listen to anyone reading Wee Free Men having enjoyed it so much reading myself. But Indira Varma, somehow, made this outstanding work even better. This book is both extraordinarily silly and extraordinarily profound. That is challenging enough to write but Ms Varma delivers a masterful performance w pacing and voice perfect to the story.

Romantasy
Revisado: 05-08-24
This book is well-written and well-read. The characters and world are well-developed. I stopped listening after a few hours, however, because the focus on the inner thoughts and the emotions of the two main characters, worthy love interests, made me forget that I was hoping for some swords and sorcery amidst the deep dish of romance.
