Historia
A weekly podcast that reads out ghost stories, horror stories, and weird tales every week. Classic stories from the pens of the masters Occasionally, we feature living authors, but the majority are dead. Some perhaps are undead. We go from cosy Edwardian ghost stories (E. F. Benson, Walter De La Mare) to Victorian supernatural mysteries (M. R. James, Elizabeth Gaskell, Bram Stoker, and Charles Dickens) to 20th-century Weird Tales (Robert Aickman, Fritz Lieber, Clark Ashton-Smith, and H. P. Lovecraft) and wander from the Gothic to the Odd, even to the Literary, and then back again. Each episode...

Historia
When Lewis Barnavelt, an orphan, comes to stay with his Uncle Jonathan, he expects to meet an ordinary person. But he is wrong. Uncle Jonathan and his next-door neighbor, Mrs. Zimmermann, are both witches! Lewis is thrilled. At first, watching magic is enough. Then Lewis experiments with magic himself and unknowingly resurrects the former owner of the house: a woman named Serenna Izard. It seems that Serenna and her husband built a timepiece into the walls - a clock that could obliterate humankind. And only the Barnavelts can stop it!

Historia
Spadework was published on the 25th anniversary of The Snatch, the first Nameless Detective novel. Spadework collects 15 short stories perfect for those who love the Nameless Detective. Two of the stories appear in print for the first time ("Worried Mother Job" and "Zero Tolerance"). The book has an excellent foreword by Marcia Muller about her take on her husband's work, and an interesting afterword by Mr. Bill Pronzini in which he talks about his dedication to the needs of the story.

They live in shadows - deep in the forest, late in the night, in the dark recesses of our minds. They're spoken of in stories and superstitions, relics of an unenlightened age, old wives' tales, passed down through generations. Yet no matter how wary and jaded we have become, as individuals or as a society, a part of us remains vulnerable to them: werewolves and wendigos, poltergeists and vampires, angry elves and vengeful spirits.

Historia
The First World War is one of history’s greatest tragedies. In this remarkable and intimate account, author G. J. Meyer draws on exhaustive research to bring to life the story of how the Great War reduced Europe’s mightiest empires to rubble, killed 20 million people, and cracked the foundations of the world we live in today. World War I is unique in the number of questions about it that remain unsettled. After more than 90 years, scholars remain divided on these questions, and it seems likely that they always will.

Historia
When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic, rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Yet despite Ludlow's tranquility, there's an undercurrent of danger that lingers...like the graveyard in the woods near the Creeds' home, where generations of children have buried their beloved pets.

Excellent - but very exhaustive - overview. If you're looking for all of the facts and details, this is the book for you. The time, effort and research that went into this book is truly impressive. At times it was too thorough for what I was looking for, but other times I appreciated the detail.

Classic Bruce Campbell
Revisado: 12-31-18
Cool read for those who enjoyed all of his cult classic films. When I first read the title, I had to laugh; I suppose Bruce truly is the quintessential B movie actor. A B movie actor, however, that built a new arm to the horror genre.
One note for those considering: I was initially expecting the book to talk a little more about the experiences of "B" movie actors as a whole, which is not so much the case. The book is a summary of his experience mostly, extending lightly to some of those in his immediate circle. Not an issue if you're a Bruce Campbell fan, but worth noting to those who are seeking a more wholistic insight into the Hollywood experience.

Historia
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Best book of 2018
Revisado: 12-31-18
One of those audiobooks that you start making up tasks that would allow you to listen further. The 'podcast' style interview/discussion between chapters is an awesome touch; really helps you process and understand the true intensity of what this man has been through. Like most things in life, there are two ends of the spectrum; David Goggins is most definitely an outlier on the side of discipline, persistence, and execution. This book motivated me like none other to lace up my running shoes and hit the road. Only problem was I would nearly crash into people (while running) when trying to clip some of the exerts of wisdom that this book includes along the journey. One of those books that I'm looking forward to letting it digest, and revisiting the clips in the near future.
