Not a biography
Revisado: 02-21-24
I don't know why authors insist on starting a book with a family history or personal autobiography? I purchased this book to learn about the topic in the title. Sorry to be rude, but I did not buy your book to learn your history. And certainly not 5 or 6 chapters. I want to learn about the mother tree. I had to stop listening because I became so bored. Sorry to be so direct, but keep the story about the topic and not an autobiography.

Historia
Of all the things humans rely on plants for - sustenance, beauty, medicine, fragrance, flavor, fiber - surely the most curious is our use of them to change consciousness: to stimulate or calm, fiddle with or completely alter, the qualities of our mental experience. Take coffee and tea: People around the world rely on caffeine to sharpen their minds. But we do not usually think of caffeine as a drug, or our daily use as an addiction, because it is legal and socially acceptable.

Loved it. Pollan is so relatable
Revisado: 03-13-22
Pollan again, takes us on a journey where he maintains the hint of skepticism that stops us short of unintentional bias. It is as if he knows where our reluctance to accept every woowoo antidote lies for today's modern homo sapien. Honest, refreshing and enlightening in a relatable way that enables the reader to make an informed decision on the topic.

Great material. Annoying narration.
Revisado: 11-17-21
The information was very interesting, but the female narrator read every question in the script with an exaggerated uplift at the end of each question that was very annoying. Her portrayal of the female part's (Dolores) emotions did not match the intended emotion. Hate to harp on it, but it was acted so badly that it overshadowed the content and was very disjointed. The publisher should increase the budget for narration and find more professional narrators.

Nothing like expectedI
Revisado: 10-05-20
I did not know that I was going to hear about the practices and short comings of psychotherapy. I was expecting to hear about Jung's opinions regarding spirit and the soul. Maybe I was not engrossed in the material or was fast forwarding too much through the material, but I felt like I was either mislead or just totally missed the subject material of the title or description. Jung fans will probably enjoy the tome, but I did not. Good luck.

Historia
While on a research trip in Peru, science journalist Alice Robb became hooked on lucid dreaming - the uncanny phenomenon in which a sleeping person can realize that they're dreaming and even control the dreamed experience. Finding these forays both puzzling and exhilarating, Robb dug deeper into the science of dreams at an extremely opportune moment: just as researchers began to understand why dreams exist. They aren't just random events; they have clear purposes. They help us learn and even overcome psychic trauma.

2 chapters in and the narrator is so distracting. Can't pinpoint any specific reasons except to agree with another reviewer. She is goofy and emphasizes with odd theater on the text. I will give you an update if I can get through the entire book.

In one of the great ironies of the modern world, the science that was expected to solve life’s mysteries has done just the opposite. New discoveries have led to more unanswered questions, created deeper mysteries, and brought us to the brink of forbidden territory when it comes to explaining our origin and existence. New York Times best-selling author and 2018 Templeton Award nominee Gregg Braden crosses the traditional boundaries of science and spirituality to answer the timeless question at the core of our existence.

Fantastic read
Revisado: 12-08-19
What we have been taught growing up is a product of an apathetic, educational administration who have forgotten or never bought in to the great responsibility that was bestowed upon them. Education is a calling and it is not a career aspiration leading to enrichment, although the best should be paid more. Thank goodness for people like Gregg who understand the importance of being knowledgeable and up to date on the human experience. Get this book and top off your knowledge or get a reboot of your own mislead knowledge base which is the fault of the apathetic educational administrators.

Historia
The author of the number-one New York Times best seller Proof of Heaven teams up with the sages of times past, modern scientists, and with ordinary people who have had profound spiritual experiences to show the reality of heaven and our true identities as spiritual beings. When Proof of Heaven was published, some people contacted Dr. Eben Alexander to argue that his near death experience was impossible. But many more have written to say his story resonated with them in profound ways.

Very Disappointed
Revisado: 11-22-19
If you have ADHD like I do, this book will drive you crazy! It is dull, convoluted and without a discernible direction. If you are looking for stories regarding life after death, or at least something resembling the sub-title, this book is not for you. While I really enjoyed the author’s earlier books, Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon's Journey into the Afterlife and Living in a Mindful Universe; A Neurosurgeon's Journey into the Heart of Consciousness, this one is the complete opposite—one that I could not finish. I caught myself actually thinking "What does that section even have to do with the subject matter?" The vastness in difference between Map of Heaven and the earlier 2 books is astounding. What a disappointment. It takes serious disappointment for me to give this bad of a review, since I am a very patient and forgiving person, but it reads like the author does not have any more to say about his NDE and filled this book with quotes from other people read very slowly to stretch it out. He also goes in to depth about a subject here and there that is so far removed from the subject that it left me scratching my head and thinking I missed something and repeated the section to see what I missed. Pass on this book and buy another book.
