Historia
Romania, 1989. Communist regimes are crumbling across Europe. Seventeen-year-old Cristian Florescu dreams of becoming a writer, but Romanians aren’t free to dream; they are bound by rules and force. Amidst the tyrannical dictatorship of Nicolae Ceaușescu in a country governed by isolation and fear, Cristian is blackmailed by the secret police to become an informer. He’s left with only two choices: betray everyone and everything he loves—or use his position to creatively undermine the most notoriously evil dictator in Eastern Europe.

Open eyes and heart
Revisado: 03-16-24
This is a beautiful account of secret suffering endured by the Romanian people. It also is a chilling reminder that communism destroys lives. There is no political system that elevates its people by control. Control uses fear, manipulation, suspicion and oppression to manage.
The author levels this criticism through the stories of those who lived it. And shows the power of hope and love.
Enjoyed with ages 10-18 on road trip. Highly recommend!

Loved the book. I wish it had a stronger ending but I suppose that shows how good the story was.

Historia
This acclaimed story of World War II is rich in suspense, characterization, plot, and spiritual truth. Every element of occupied Holland is united in a story of courage and hope: a hidden Jewish child, an underdiver, a downed RAF pilot, an imaginative, daring underground hero, and the small things of family life which surprisingly carry on in the midst of oppression.
