Historia
"Guns up!" was the battle cry that sent machine gunners racing forward with their M60s to mow down the enemy, hoping that this wasn't the day they would meet their deaths. Marine Johnnie Clark heard that the life expectancy of a machine gunner in Vietnam was seven to ten seconds after a firefight began. Johnnie was only eighteen when he got there, at the height of the bloody Tet Offensive at Hue, and he quickly realized the grim statistic held a chilling truth.

New Guinea became the site of one of the World War II's most savage campaigns. Despite their lack of jungle training, the 32nd Division's Ghost Mountain Boys were assigned the most grueling mission of the entire Pacific campaign: to march 130 miles over rugged mountains and to protect the right flank of the Australian army as they fought to push the Japanese back to the village of Buna.

Schofield worked five and a half years providing medical support for the Hmong and other Hill Tribes who fought the CIA’s secret war in Northern Laos, and was among the last Americans to leave SE Asia in May 1975. It was a surreal time and place that would be impossible to even imagine today.

Story was well read, and interesting, but that’s where it ends for me. I guess the author and my morals don’t mesh.

One of the best SOG stories yet

One of the best SOG stories, yet, and I’ve read most of them. The way it is written makes you realize how human and relatable the author is.

Hard to follow.
Revisado: 03-08-23
I know it’s fiction, but it lacks realism. I can tell the author has limited knowledge some of his subject matter. Also just a nick pick, but AKs don’t have a lower pin to remove the upper. Since there isn’t an upper to remove. He explained an AR when AK is what was being used.

Revisado: 01-07-23
Great story. I enjoyed it. As alway Ray Porter does a phenomenal job. I’m a stickler for details. I don’t all of them, but the obvious get me. MH-6s don’t carry armament. That’s what AH-6s are for. MH-6s are for personnel transport.

The fascinating biography of the man who laid the foundation for the CIA. One of the most celebrated and highly decorated heroes of World War I, a noted trial lawyer, presidential adviser and emissary, and chief of America’s Office of Strategic Services during World War II, William J. Donovan was a legendary figure. Donovan, originally published in 1982, penetrates the cloak of secrecy surrounding this remarkable man. The result is the definitive biography that Donovan himself had always expected Dunlop would write.

Too much political interjection

While I believe the author in most of his political statements in this book I found it more about politics then about SOG I had to stop listening to it just because there was too much political interjection in it
