Historia
It starts with the body of a Hollywood producer in the trunk of a Rolls-Royce, shot twice in the head at close range - what looks like "trunk music", a Mafia hit. But the LAPD's organized crime unit is curiously uninterested, and when Harry follows a trail of gambling debts to Las Vegas, the case suddenly becomes more complex - and much more personal.

one of my all time favorite Connolly/Bosch books. Dick Hill is a master. Connolly needs to go back to using him for future reads, bring Bosch back to life!

clever
Revisado: 09-25-23
excellent narration. very clever delivery of a story that culminated in a "wait! what"?! Knowing what I found out at the end I'm tempted to go back and listen again from this different perspective. I will say this is one of those stories that should be listened to quickly, it's easy to forget what's happening (or where in the story's back-and-forth timeline you're at) if you don't stay tuned in.

what a disappointment
Revisado: 04-29-23
Bostonian here who remembers both bussing and copiously white South Boston days... I'm here to say that the use of racial slurs here as the norm in both thought process and dialog is grossly exaggerated. nobody thought or talked like this as much as this character would lead a reader to believe. 9 chapters in and Lehane still hasn't moved on from the initial storyline. long, drawn out, boring and leaving a bad taste in this readers mouth. oh, and just in case anyone is wondering no, we don't drop the R off the end of every word...moving on without finishing, life is too short to spend any more time listening to this book.

Working her graveyard shift, LAPD detective Renée Ballard waits out the traditional rain of lead as hundreds of revelers shoot their guns into the air. confusing

love Christine Lakin as Ballard narrator, may as well have left Bosch out altogether as a character or stepped him up because his one-line dialog contributions were WEAK

Renée Ballard is working the night beat again and returns to Hollywood Station in the early hours only to find a stranger rifling through old file cabinets. The intruder is retired detective Harry Bosch, working a cold case that has gotten under his skin. Ballard kicks him out but then checks into the case herself, and it brings a deep tug of empathy and anger. Bosch is investigating the death of 15-year-old Daisy Clayton, a runaway on the streets of Hollywood who was brutally murdered and her body left in a dumpster like so much trash. Now, Ballard joins forces with Bosch.
