I've read stories on Army, Navy, and Air Force special operations in the global war on terror. I was excited to listen to this story of Marine Corps ops. Having been a Hospital Corpsman who served with 1st and 3rd Marine Divisions, I was excited to hear stories from my beloved Marines.

The story is an engaging and personal narrative on the Bala Murghab operations. It was enjoyable and filled out some of the very gaps I was hoping to fill in my appreciation of how various units experienced the wars.

The narration, however, was dreadful. It seemed to me the narrator felt compelled to use his voice to make the story more harrowing, heart-wrenching, and awe inspiring than any war history that had preceded it. He introduced drama into the spelling of things, as if slowly and melodramatically sounding out the spelling might make you believe the very name of a thing could send one of the enemy to the afterlife. It was over the top to the point of being ludicrous.

The tone and vocabulary of this book are definitely targeted at young taxpayers. Some may find this off-putting. But it's worth the mild pain. I was already loathsome of government before listening to this. Now I'm simply irate. The scale of the theft is massive. The arrogance, more so. This book will be eye-opening for most.
