Historia
At first glance, Jellicoe Close seems to be a perfect suburban street – well-kept houses with pristine lawns, neighbours chatting over garden fences, children playing together. But there are dark secrets behind the neat front doors, hidden dangers that include a ruthless criminal who will stop at nothing. It’s up to DS Maeve Kerrigan and DI Josh Derwent to uncover the truth. Posing as a couple, they move into the Close, blurring the lines between professional and personal as never before.

Obsessed with this series. Great book!
Revisado: 03-16-23
I truly love this series. Always look forward to the next one, this one had a long wait! But it delivered. Ending already has me looking forward to the next one. Not a fan of the narrator though. She makes Mauve feel older than she seems by the writing, and her male character voice misses the mark. The earlier audiobooks in the series were narrated better. But the book itself was really enjoyable!

Historia
Lucy Albright is far from her Long Island upbringing when she arrives on the campus of her small California college and happy to be hundreds of miles from her mother, whom she's never forgiven for an act of betrayal in her early teen years. Quickly grasping at her fresh start, Lucy embraces college life and all it has to offer - new friends, wild parties, stimulating classes. And then she meets Stephen DeMarco. Charming. Attractive. Complicated. Devastating.

Great story, not great narration
Revisado: 11-03-22
I got this book after watching the show. The story is very very different than the show, but it’s really good! Engaging and a good listen. However, the male narrator really takes you out of it. Corey Brill… His voice is not at all right for a hunky male lead. He would probably do better with a non fiction or something along those lines. It just isn’t the sexy player vibe of the character. I really struggle listening to him, and usually don’t finish listening to books he narrates because I can’t take his voice seriously as the romantic lead he’s trying to play. He also does terrible female character voices. The female narrator was decent. I’ve listened to a few of her audiobooks, and while she isn’t my favorite, they’re good enough to listen to. Her male character voice is lacking. Would have loved to hear Julia Whelan play both sides of this story, her character voices are much more refined. That’s what this audiobook was lacking.
The story is good!! While it has a ton of fat shaming and eating disorder discussion, the main plot was relatable. We all know what a toxic relationship is like, and this does it well. We hear how annoying the female obsession with the main guy is, we all have friends like that. Definitely curious about the other characters points of view.

Bryce Quinlan and Hunt Athalar are trying to get back to normal - they may have saved Crescent City, but with so much upheaval in their lives lately, they mostly want a chance to relax. Slow down. Figure out what the future holds.

Not great, but the end hooks you
Revisado: 10-11-22
The entire book feels like filler until the last sentence. Bryce is cringe and annoying, her snappy comebacks sound so try hard. But I’d heard it was worth finishing, so I hung in there. While the first book was such an info dump before it got good, this one throws a ton of new characters and species at you. One after the next. It doesn’t let you get super in deep with any of them, just keeps adding new ones til the end. Overall it was disappointing, given how obsessed I am with the ACOTAR series.

Noir style fae mystery. Great read
Revisado: 10-03-22
If you can slog through all the info dump chapters at the beginning, it’s so good!!! Pulls you in and keeps you wondering what’s happening. Excited to read the next one. Very different from ACOTAR series, but really good after the first few chapters. The info dump for world building is clunky and should have been done much differently. Maybe in a “show, don’t tell” kind of way. But it’s forgivable.
