Revisado: 05-28-23
There are 4 other versions of this one. I highly recommend picking any of them over this. The narrator is just awful at this. He could probably read a short scientific paper or something of the sort but this is not his forte.

Skip this one & get book 4.
Revisado: 12-15-22
This one was just bad. Unless you were looking for a Walking Dead book & accidentally downloaded...
I am on my way to return this title. The next book in the series is pretty good. No, it's not as good as the first 2. However it has continuation with the first book & at least fits within the series.
To summarize: don't get this one. Skip it & download book 4.

Welcome to Ringworld, an intermediate step between Dyson Spheres and planets. The gravitational force created by a rotation on its axis of 770 miles per second means no need for a roof. Walls 1,000 miles high at each rim will let in the sun and prevent much air from escaping. Larry Niven's novel, Ringworld, is the winner of the 1970 Hugo Award for Best Novel, the 1970 Nebula Award for Best Novel, and the 1972 Ditmars, an Australian award for Best International Science Fiction.

Just good all the way round. Good story & narrator. It has a real feel of the Long Earth Terry Pratchett & Steven Baxter > if you have read that series or just the first novel.
Really no way to tell it was written back in the 70's, unless you are a cosmologist or astrophysicist you should be ok. *If you are one of those, 1st hi 👋 2nd thanks for reading my review 3rd just pretend you time traveled back to 1970 & are listening to this on a green shag rug. 4th Live long & prosper 🖖 The original Star Trek is on the black & white TV...

Ignore the Bad Reviews!
Revisado: 04-12-22
About an hour in you are thinking; Hunger Games if it took place in Game of Thrones Universe. The trilogy is fantastic!
Read the summary, I won't include it here, but I think a lot of the bad reviews came from the social classes made up of colors. Wait! Not like that! Gold is on top followed by technically obsidian but kind of silver blue... At the bottom is the Red of Mars.
Trust me on this one, this is my 700'th audiobook & it is fantastic!

Historia
Thousands of years ago, Earth's terraforming program took to the stars. On the world they called Nod, scientists discovered alien life - but it was their mission to overwrite it with the memory of Earth. Then humanity's great empire fell, and the program's decisions were lost to time. Aeons later, humanity and its new spider allies detected fragmentary radio signals between the stars. They dispatched an exploration vessel, hoping to find cousins from old Earth. But those ancient terraformers woke something on Nod better left undisturbed. And it's been waiting for them.

It felt rushed to me. It's a good story & I enjoy having a sequel to Children of Time but it had it's issues. An OCD issue that may not bother you... "After All" was used 108 times... Get a thesaurus!

What a ride, strong finish
Revisado: 12-10-21
I want to begin with the placement, of this beast of a series. To me, one of the strongest aspects is where we are; in the solar system, in the near future. I think this has been an overlooked strain Sifi...
I'm kind of reviewing on the whole. As a huge work this again was a fun ride.
Finally off to watch the TV series.
Ps. A lot of the short fiction novellas are like origin stories. Just FYI they are not necessary. But they enrich the body of work. And you will recognize Easter eggs dropped into the novels from the short fiction. Was a must for me.
Thanks for your work & well done!

Wow! What a departure from the current Scifi norm.
Revisado: 07-07-21
I'm going to have to go back & re-listen to this one. I did this one while on a long hike. It is totally different from what a lot of Scifi is doing lately. There is not a ton you can say w/o spoilers popping up. I'm going to keep that part vague. The narrator is below average & while he doesn't do this novel any favors... he equally does not totally destroy it either.
Late 21st century... Expansion on genetic manipulation some cyborg type situations & revival of extinct species... We're in space but get over it. Child on the beach knows nothing of the sea. Give this one your full attention!

Not Really Cyberpunk, Not Quite Military Scifi
Revisado: 05-10-21
I'd start by saying I am a huge fan of Scifi. I've read the classic to just released. I gave book 1 & 2 here a try after seeing it mentioned in a website review of best new Scifi. It wasn't on the list, like I said it was mentioned.
Anyway, it's cyberpunk only insofar as there are digitized stacks that allow us to transfer or conscious from one body to the next. Most Cyberpunk has a lot of entering the computer world. Here, it's done like once when 2 people screw. There is sort of some space travel, and a war is going on. A great deal of time & effort is spent describing weapon systems & cyborg type implants. But, as in book one, it's mostly about the main dude. IDK. I'm intentionally making this review all over the place. if you like your reviews like this, you will probably like the book.
The only continuity here & there. It ends well.

Historia
This near-future trilogy is the first chance for English-speaking listeners to experience this multiple-award-winning phenomenon from Cixin Liu, China's most beloved science fiction author. In The Dark Forest, Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion - in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy.

Sequel to Three Body Problem
Revisado: 11-13-20
I really enjoyed Three Body. After reading a number of reviews, mostly negative, regarding the narrator... I decided to give this a shot. The narrator is different from the first novel. But I think more importantly, the translation was done by someone else as well. Most distracting is the use of full names & titles.
*Edited after second read*
So, about a third of the way in I got used to the names, it's not like War & Peace after all. The narrator does a great job with character voices. His problem is the third person narrator inflection. He speaks a clear midwest or multimedia dialogue. But when saying names he switches to Chinese. Also, he puts a heavy accent on end of sentences/coma's etc. The unusual nature of the book is worth a listen.
