Listening to this with rose tinted glasses
Revisado: 12-04-20
I read this the first time probably back in 2012-2013 at 14-15 years old and LOVED it. I've since read it around three times or more, and listened to the audiobook around tree to four times. To say I know this book would be an understatement. Because of this I feel I probably have a bias when it comes to this review because of the nostalgia.
The premise is fantastic, and the world is so much fun! I love the worldbuilding and the human characters. After having read this a few times here is what I've come up with:
- The love triangle (square???) is unnecessary and weird.
- There's once again a dash of good ol' Smeyer being a mormon and thinking it's totally normal for a 16 year old to hook up with almost a 30 year old man.
- The motivations from one part of the love triangle is bonkers and I do not get it
- Wanda have no personality and only serves to drive the plot and elevate the male characters.
- A few characters motivations are also bonkers and changes too fast without explaination.
There is probably more stuff I forgot to mention, but despite this, despite me knowing all of these faults, I keep coming back. I genuinely probably re-read or re-listen to this book once a year, and I'm not planning on stopping anytime soon. I'd recommend everyone to read this - young or old, if only to create their own opinion. If not for the story, then for the awesome world-building.

Kept me hooked and made me come back for more!
Revisado: 12-04-20
This is one of those books I put off reading for too long. I added it to my wishlist because I just knew it was something I'd enjoy, but I just didn't actually read it. That is, until one day I thought to myself "today is the day! I know I'll like it, I just have to actually read it!" *note listen.
I am so happy that I did. This is one of those books that are just up my alley. It's just good fun honestly! It gets me into a great mood, and I really liked the format, though I can see how people would get annoyed by it. I assume there's a lot of formatting in the physical copy, but I think it carried over great in the form of audible pen strokes to simulare strikethroughs etc. I just thought it was a nice touch that really made this book memorable.
It *did* drag on at some points, but because of how fun it was I didn't mind. My only regret is that I didn't read it sooner! Anyways, I'm off to do a re-listen!

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

I keep coming back for more
Revisado: 12-04-20
This is one of those books that I keep returning to because it just doesn't leave my mind. Wonderful prose, gut wrenching punchline that you *know* is coming and you're still not prepared. I LOVE reading books with prose and almost poem like structures. If you don't, then this book might not be for you.
IIt's just so beautifully structured that once you've listened to it, if you go back, some lines can make you tear up becuse you know what's coming. If you're familiar with greek mythology you already know what's coming, but once again, you're not prepared.
The only negative thing I have to say about this book is the narrator. He does a wonderful job, but I find myself getting annoyed at some of his voices (not all! but definitely some).

Wonderful story and universe - rushed ending
Revisado: 12-04-20
When realized this book was on audible, I HAD to pick it up. I read it way back in 2015 as a 17 year old and got blown away... and confused. I'm not a native english speaker, so I had issues with some terms as when I read it way back, and the ending hit me full force in the face. I think it genuinely helped me when I listened to it this time.
The entire story is wonderfully crafted and the universe so fleshed out - yet it leaves a lot unspoken and up to the reader's interpretation. During the story I got frustrated with how Luna kept missing the *obvious* etc, but after further contemplation I came to the realization I would probably act in a similar manner. The voice actor did an incredible job.
To put into perspective how good of a book this is, I bought it at around 9pm because I wanted something to listen to before going to bed - I ended up listening to the entire thing and went to sleep at 7am. It's that addictive!
The only "negative" things I have to say about the book is that it's all a very nice pace, and then comes the ending with so much happening that you're sure to be at least a little confused. It unravels at the speed of light and you end up in different places very fast. There were also around 3 (?) parts where editing missed stuff, like lines being flubbed, or spoken twice, but it was so rare you barely notice it.
I'd definitely recommend this to teens around 15-18, or literally anyone wanting a good time. It deals with mature themes, and I'd like to revisit it another 5 years down the line.

Historia
More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. The only thing keeping the two surviving lifeboats in the sky are Hell Divers - men and women who risk their lives by skydiving to the surface to scavenge for parts the ships desperately need.

Interesting and gut wrenching universe
Revisado: 10-03-17
I loved this book. I loved it so much I finished it in 2 days. The concept of the hell divers alone would've made me love the book alone, but the characters are all so human. Now, I'll admit, it's a bit far fetched that EX would have so much luck but it is what it is.
This book would not have been as good without sweet sweet Tin. I'm so looking forward to the next book.

A twilight fan fiction
Revisado: 09-13-17
Having read the first book multiple times I was hoping for something exciting! Sadly I was disappointed, only getting some knock off fanfiction a 12 year old could've written better. Honestly, what kinda name is boferd?? If that's even how you spell it. The original is as it is, same old same old.

Cliché love story with super powers
Revisado: 07-02-17
I didn't know what I would think about this book, but I have to say I enjoyed it! However, as soon as I realized that they were supposed to be 15 I was shook. They act much older, but at the same time have the mentality of 12 year olds that make me want to slam my head into a desk. Four's and Sarah's love story moves far too fast in my opinion and it's obvious that this book isn't exactly directed towards people my age (18).
When picking up this book I was looking for something relatively easy going, easy to listen too (as I'm not a native English speaker and would prefer a story with simple words as it relaxes me) and some action. I got all of these, so as far as I'm concerned, this was a good book. I'm already planning on buying the next book in the series once I get my monthly pay.
