Historia
Books and Bug are polar opposites, despite their friendship. Rumors on the road speak of a hospital in Washing D.C. Leading a small group of survivors, including pregnant women, the two travel in earnest to provide the soon-to-be mothers a safe place to deliver. Bug–a natural, charismatic leader–refuses to leave anyone behind while Books–a pragmatic social outsider–wishes not to be responsible for the safety of others. Together, they're exactly what this group needs to survive. But DC isn't exactly the safe haven they hoped for.

Wasn’t crazy about this one
Revisado: 04-15-25
This series started out really special. People coming together to survive. Building something sustainable and solid. It was always clear who the good guys were. The story lines were all good but the influences of the co-author (who I have read before) weighed especially heavy in this 5th book. It was such a departure from the previous winning characters that it’s almost like somebody else wrote part of book four and most all of five. Both books demonstrated a cruelty I found very disturbing. This one was so absurdly vicious that I almost returned it with only 2+ hours to go.
I was fed up with the 3 hours of relentless battle and pretty much done with this series altogether. I’m glad I stuck it out because at the end, the author’s skill at weaving a great story made me look forward to the next installment. I just bought book 6. I would not have bought it if Ford were the co-author again. I cannot stand books who kill important and well liked characters, or has unhinged violence no matter how much the author thinks it adds to the storyline.
I really like the winners that made up the commune in Wyoming. I liked that they often out flanked their adversaries in their fighting encounters and their unity of purpose absent in book five. I couldn’t put those early books down. Hopefully he’ll have a more promising commune in the next book.

Different but very good
Revisado: 03-18-25
This book was recommended by a friend. I didn’t think I would like it at first but about an hour into it, I really got hooked. So much so, that I listened to it straight for about many hours. I bought the 2nd book in the series before I even finished this one. I did notice it’s been two years since the last release. I hope she ends the series well if she’s not going to continue with it. I will be looking for more books by this author and narrator.

With Kingsley safe and Momar subdued for the moment, it's time for healing. Jessie and the gang take a much-needed break. Or, at least, the gang does. The holidays are upon them and the ex has invited Jessie to meet his new fiancée. It's off to L.A. where Jessie will face her past and the wounds she didn't realize still lingered. Niamh, too, meets a blast from her past. This one, though, is ten times more dangerous. Re-connecting is a risk not even Tristan is sure they should take.

Another good one.
Revisado: 03-17-25
Amazon has this listed as book 10. I have read everything and this is book 9.
I love this series. The Leveling Up books are by far KF Breene’s best work. They have humor, action, romance and a little intrigue. I frequently laugh out loud. The characters are
all likable, even the grumpy ones. This one kinda left us hanging on what Sebastian and Nessa are up to, so I’ve been anxious for the next in the series.
It has been more than a year since her last release so hopefully her next installment will be coming soon.
Nicole Poole is one of my favorite performers. She brings Jesse‘s characters to life. Nicole‘s dead pan narration of Jessie’s reaction to the antics is what makes me laugh. I much prefer the narrated versions over the dramatized adaptations. The release dates of the adaptions throw off the actual publication dates so the series doesn’t sort in order of publication date on Audible anymore.
Now that the series numbering is off, it’s even more confusing.
The books were written in the following order and should be read by publication date if you want to get the most out of the series.
1) Magical midlife madness, 2020
2) Magical midlife dating 2020
3) Magical midlife invasion 2020
4) Magical midlife love 2021
5) Magical midlife meeting 2021
6) Magical midlife challenge 2022
7) Magical midlife alliance 2023
7.5) Magical midlife Flowers 2024
8) Magical midlife battle 2024
9) Magical midlife awakening 2024
I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

Good Storytelling
Revisado: 01-14-25
I actually enjoyed the edge of my seat excitement with each encounter with the undead. The reason for the four stars is because it’s very hard to follow when jumping from one group to another. Sometimes the failures were overdone and frustrating for me. It got much better toward the end of the series. Many deaths of main characters is what detracted from the overall enjoyment. Many of those deaths, in fact most, were not necessary and served no purpose. This is a consistent theme through all Ford’s books. He does much better with a co-writer but it is obvious he is the storyteller.

Good end for the series
Revisado: 12-26-24
Pros: the crude but witty exchanges between the characters was refreshing. I actually started liking them after book one. The book ended well.
Cons:Quinn started macho in the first two books but seemed like a bumbler in this one two affected by past traumas. The moral high ground just didn’t fit in the lawless wasteland and made him seem weak and culpable in the showdown. I don’t understand the relish Ford takes in the brutality he dishes out to the good guys. Those kind of beating always went too far and would have killed them in real life so not believable or necessary. At least in this series he didn’t kill off one of the primary good guys at the end of each book.
It was worth reading but I think I will stick to the books he co-authors.

A sinister cabal of corrupt law enforcement personnel, intelligence agents, and military officials at the highest levels of government plotted to overthrow a president. Even after they failed, they continue to secretly pull the levers of power without any accountability to the American people. This isn’t the synopsis of a fictional spy thriller. This is what is actually happening in the United States government.

I knew it was bad in DC, but I had no idea how bad. He drops names and appears to back it all up with facts. Will be interesting to see how many of the people on his lists are still around in 4 years.

Historia
For some reason, when it comes to complex issues, we’ve largely limited ourselves to just two options, resulting in a society of non-thinkers. After all, once you’ve picked a side, all the thinking has already been done for you. As an independent, libertarian voter who has spent the last ten years at Fox News, Kat has faced this issue too many times to count. She’s learned that surprising things can happen when you refuse to choose a team, especially when you work at a place some people call an existential threat to America.

Great insight on many topics
Revisado: 11-14-24
Kat has a very logical approach to many things. This was a completely unexpected guide to look inside myself and my own biases. I’ve seen Kat on many shows over the last couple of years and I always thought she was just a radical libertarian. I enjoyed her wet, her unique perspective and her banter, especially on Gutfeld. I never would’ve thought she was such a deep thinker. I think everyone who has heavy bias toward any other group, political party or culture should read this. She lives by a very basic rule “do unto others “. I liked it so much. I’m going to go download her earlier book.

Outstanding
Revisado: 10-16-24
This is the best non-fiction book on military actions I have ever read. I am old enough that I remembered the published version of these events. It is immensely gratifying to hear the deeper stories. McRaven has a clear and concise way of describing the events such that even someone completely removed from interactions with the military can understand.
I would not have thought to even read this author except his shortened version of these events (Make Your Bed) was assigned reading for my book club. He’s a great writer and narrator. I would definitely buy any fiction books should he decide to write one.

Historia
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

Took me while to catch up
Revisado: 09-21-24
Took me a long time to clear the cobwebs and remember who the characters were from the previous books. I liked it once I got into it. The humor is still there and I do like the concept of slipping into vert and mannies but this one was harder to follow. This book had too much going on. The Bobs need united a purpose.
