Once again, Reid Mitenbuler knows how to do deep dive research and lay it out and such a fashion that you can’t stop listening to it. This is a fantastic story in every respect: I thought the narrator, a bit dramatic sometimes, however, and it was not my favorite presentation. Still, the story and the main character overcame all of that. Well worth the listen.

The title doesn’t do the contents of this book a lot of justice, but it is eye-catching. This is a terrific book full of tons of information that couples who care to improve can use and enjoy a better life together. Very entertaining, well narrated and full of great tips. Highly recommended.

I like Dave Grohl as a person and musician. His sunny disposition, huge smile and will-do spirit is what makes him impossible to turn away from on TV interviews. So it was with great anticipation that I bought this autobiography. Overall I really liked it. I like his story and storytelling, I like hearing about so many of his music heroes and what kinds of people they are. Where the book falls a little short is in the editing. There are several points at which it repeats itself, and sometimes frustratingly so, out of order of the story. Whether Grohl insisted on this path or his editors missed it, I don't know, but confusing it was. And while I enjoyed Grohl reading his own book, his take tended toward melodrama too often. Perhaps my preference leans toward a more straightforward read? Dunno. But to his credit, a melodramatic flair is familiar territory for sanguine personalities like his. And what little I know about such people is they tend to be happier people. Grohl seems like a happy dude, and I'm glad for him. He clearly worked his tail off to follow his dreams, and that was the best theme of the book: Follow your dreams, people! If you're in need of that kind of inspiration, Grohl's stories are undeniably helpful here.

Marcus Samuelsson does a brilliant job of navigating the journey through his life from Ethiopian orphan to one of America's best regarded and famous chefs. Samuelsson tells his story from the unique perspective a black man working in restaurant, club and cruise ship kitchens on three continents. His perspective is eye-opening, but, sadly, not surprising. The guy is a fighter whose weapons are top performance in every kitchen wherever he works. This is an inspiring story for anyone who likes to see the good guy win. It's definitely inspiring for black men and women who yearn to succeed in the restaurant industry. It's a model for a well told autobiography that shows the author warts and all. You gotta love the guy for owning his mistakes and working to make good on them. After seeing his show on PBS, I've wanted to meet him. After listening to his audiobook--well narrated by him, BTW--that desire is only heightened. Neat man and a real talent working to make a difference for black Americans.

Great story for oenophiles

I really enjoyed this book to about 3/4 mark, where it dived into the modern wine industry as it has expanded globally. And for serious oenophiles, this may be really interesting. But I was more interested in how American wine makers burst onto the global scene via the Paris Judgement, and the nearer-term ripple effects. Going beyond that isn't a knock on the book at all. I just lost interest after a while. Very well researched, though, and the narrator is quite good.

If you've ever wanted to know what really drove the decades of conflict in Ireland between the Irish and the Brits, and among the Irish themselves, this is a riveting and detailed story of why, when and who was behind it all. Superb writing, research and narration are on offer in this book. And while it is a bit difficult to keep up with all the fractious groups who participated the murders and bombings that I recall making TV news regularly in the 70s and 80s, sticking with the whole story will clear it up a bit. I'm sure that reading it from a printed book would make that easier, but then you'd miss out on the great narration by Matthew Blaney.

A thoroughly enjoyable story by Delia Owens

I really enjoyed this, really enjoyed how the book pulled me along, how the author had me suspecting one person, then another, as the murderer in the story. I can't say I was terribly surprised by the ending, but it was a bit unexpected. Delia Owens is a talented writer whose descriptive phrases paint vivid pictures for the listener/reader. Cassandra Campbell's narration was fine and fluid, though her attempts at managing both genders fell short, and many of the characters sounded the same. I'm fine with narrators who just read the book without trying to match speakers' genders. But that's just me. I'm certain no one's going to ask me to do such difficult work! Overall, she was fine. Great summer listen, this one.

Since I'm not a horror novel fan, I've not read any Stephen King until now, but I've always heard he's a great writer. This proves it. Well researched well written. I'm not big on vulgarity, but that used here was neither egregious or sensational. Based on what little I know about prison life (thankfully precious little), that used here was well within the context of that setting. Overall, this book was one I found excuses to listen to. Were it not an audio book, I'd call it a page turner.
