Historia
Julia Hollis’ opulent life in Victorian London crashes to pieces when her husband passes away. Worse, she is told by his bankers that he gambled away their fortune. Now the family’s hope rests on The Larkspur, an old abandoned coaching inn in the quaint village of Gresham. Driven by dread and her desire to provide for her children, Julia decides to turn the dilapidated inn into a lodging house. But can she - who was accustomed to servants attending to every need - do what needs to be done and cope when boarders begin arriving?

Delightful, Faith-filled book.
Revisado: 09-18-24
This was a delightful book. I loved how real the characters were, as were their interactions. There was also a lot to learn about putting faith into practice in tough circumstances, and enduring them. The author included so many details of the time period, that made the book all the more interesting, such as when the vicar is reading about how the Gypsy mother was damaging the orchards in New England. I had not realized that the Gypsy moth was here in the last decades of the 1800s.

Historia
Five young Ayrtons all grew up at Amberwell, playing in the gardens and preparing themselves to venture out into the world. To each of these children, Amberwell meant something different, but common to all of them was the idea that Amberwell was more than just where they lived - it was part of them.

One of my very favorite books!
Revisado: 10-30-23
Much of the first part of this book seems trivial, but keep on going, as it sets the stage for marvelous growth in most all the characters, through the struggles they face. I just love the second half of the book! The reading by Lesley is absolutely amazing!

So incredibly inspiring!
Revisado: 08-28-21
I so highly recommend this audio production! It is absolutely fantastic and I will listen to it again and again. The person who played Francis was so passionate in his prayers to God, it was contagious, and opened my eyes to such greater heartfelt praise and thankfulness and obedience to God. One of my favorite things in this production was quite late within it, when Francis writes his canticle to God (with Clair putting it to vellum), praising God for each part of His creation. I have played this back, over and over.

Megan Follows narrates beautifully, but the story is so sadly shortened here. Good if you don’t mind a short version.
