Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

A nice little story
Revisado: 07-17-21
A very quick read. Not much closure but it's fairly fun and holds up by itself. I may read the rest of the series.

Historia
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

Beautifully written and performed

I absolutely adored this book. A little bit of house of leaves and a little bit of mystery thriller. Gripping all the way through to the end.

Historia
When Rosemary Harper joins the crew of the Wayfarer, she isn't expecting much. The ship, which has seen better days, offers her everything she could possibly want: a small, quiet spot to call home for a while, adventure in far-off corners of the galaxy and distance from her troubled past. But Rosemary gets more than she bargained for with the Wayfarer. The crew is a mishmash of species and personalities, from Sissix, the friendly reptilian pilot, to Kizzy and Jenks, the constantly sparring engineers who keep the ship running.

The best audio book performance I've ever heard
Revisado: 02-08-19
When I started this book I was shocked at how good the audio quality is and I had to hold back from writing a review before I had even finished the book. The subtle sound effects and music really take an already excellent story to the next level. The story itself feels partly like a quiet slice of life story about a long haul space crew and partly a nail bitting adventure that had me gritting my teeth and hanging on every word. This is a charming little book that is brimming with character and you can feel the love that was put into making each character and setting feel real and alive. I would recommend it to anyone.

Historia
In a star system dominated by the brutal Vathek empire, 16-year-old Amani is a dreamer. She dreams of what life was like before the occupation; she dreams of writing poetry like the old-world poems she adores; she dreams of receiving a sign from Dihya that one day she, too, will have adventure and travel beyond her isolated moon. But when adventure comes for Amani, it is not what she expects: She is kidnapped by the regime and taken in secret to the royal palace, where she discovers that she is nearly identical to the cruel half-Vathek Princess Maram.

Refreshingly different
Revisado: 01-18-19
This is an incredibly well written and performed audio book and its a refreshing story for scifi and in general. It's a powerful story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My only complaint was the abrupt ending, which leaves you with very little closure; it feels like it ended on a cliffhanger 3/4 of the way through a larger story. I don't know if a sequel is planned, but I hope so.

But there might be more waiting for them in space than adventure and fortune: The fabled and feared Bosa Sennen, in particular. Decent story spoiled by muddy audio
Revisado: 07-28-18
First time I picked this up, I put it back down after a few minutes. The second time around I kept going and I got used to the narrator and the story kept me interested, but the audio quality is absolutely awful. It sounds really washed out and that combined with the narrators accents and the fact that there is so much space pirate lingo bandied about, I had to keep running it back to hear something I missed. I ended up listening to almost all of it on headphones. It reads like a young adult book but alastair is an incredible author and he can really make anything work.

Not what I expected, but I was pleasantly surprise
Revisado: 07-18-18
I guess I was expecting more of a standard scifi story, but I was surprised to get a well written character drama in a scifi setting. I think the author did a really good job of portraying mental illness from a first person perspective and I genuinely felt sorry for the main character. I've never read anything quite like that and it was refreshing. The ending escalates pretty quickly and then ends kind of abruptly but it was a great read overall.

Historia
In 1979, a secret unit was established by the most gifted minds within the US Army. Defying all known accepted military practice - and indeed, the laws of physics - they believed that a soldier could adopt the cloak of invisibility, pass cleanly through walls and, perhaps most chillingly, kill goats just by staring at them. Entrusted with defending America from all known adversaries, they were the First Earth Battalion. And they really weren't joking. What's more, they're back and fighting the War on Terror.

Not my favorite from ronson
Revisado: 06-12-17
Out of all his work, this is my least favorite. It struck me as disjointed and rambling. It never reaches a point and ends abruptly. Check out Lost at Sea or So You've Been Publicly Shamed instead.

It may be a little slower than the preceeding books, but it's still a worthy addition and I'm looking forward to the final book.
