Historia
In this painfully moving memoir, take a firsthand look at anorexia through the eyes of a young girl. Even in kindergarten, Rachel Richards knows something isn't right. By leading us through her distorted thoughts, she shines a light on the experience and mystery of mental illness. As she grows up, unable to comprehend or communicate her inner trauma, Rachel lashes out, hurting herself, running away from home, and fighting her family. Restricting food gives her the control she craves. But after being hospitalized and force-fed, Rachel only retreats further into herself.

Too full of herself
Revisado: 01-30-25
I have never heard an autobiography so full of bragging and self praise, there’s hardly a paragraph without it. Got so nauseating that I had to stop half way through the book.

Madness: A Bipolar Life delivers the revelation that Hornbacher is not alone: Millions of people in America, today, are struggling with a variety of disorders that may disguise their bipolar disease. And Hornbacher's fiercely self-aware portrait of her own bipolar as early as age four will powerfully change, too, the current debate on whether bipolar disease actually exists in in children.

This book does not provide any insights into how to improve self discipline. All the ideas are obvious truths that everyone already knows, but may have problems implenting. Advice on how to manage to implement them? Just do it. Dieting? Use you will power! (doesn’t say anything about how to get more will power) Need to save money? Just spent less! Procrastination? Sett yourself a reminder on your phone! Need more self discipline! Basically the author is telling you: Just get more disciplined. Thanks for the help. Duh.

Unbeknownst to food critic Sheila Himmel-as she reviewed exotic cuisines from bistro to brasserie- her daughter, Lisa, was at home starving herself. Before Sheila fully grasped what was happening, her 14-year-old with a thirst for life and a palate for the flavors of Vietnam and Afghanistan was replaced by a weight-obsessed, antisocial, 100 pound 19-year-old.

Historia
The Longest Match: Rallying to Defeat an Eating Disorder in Midlife is a beautifully written and heartfelt memoir illustrating the trajectory from early childhood, through adolescence and early adulthood, to midlife when eating disorder thoughts and behaviors took over the author’s life. Journal entries reveal occasional negative thoughts about her weight or food in younger years, but the stressors of midlife knocked this high functioning woman off her feet.

Save your time and money!
Revisado: 08-04-22
This is not a book about ED. (it’s pronounced ee-dee, it’s an abbreviation, it’s not the name Ed, as the author really annoyingly pronounces it!) It is a loooong, whiney account of an over priveliged, spoiled, self-absorbed, extremely needy woman who complains and complains about every little thing that happened to her, and cried that no one understands her, no one gives her the love that she neeeeeds, and blames everyone else for her so-called anorexia. (it sounds nothing like anorexia, it’s more like a quite normal obsession about dieting. ) Anyway, she doesn’t get to that before 6 hours into the book, by then you will have gotten really fed up by the repetitious whining about how sad her life is. Spare yourselves people!

Save yourself the time and money!
Revisado: 04-30-22
I have never heard an autobiography about such an obnoxious, spoiled brat. She is constantly complaining about everyone else around her, especially all the people who are trying to help her. Everything is just me, me, ME, how can they do this to MEEE! She spend 4 days at an eating disorder facility before she gives up and leaves, and then complains for the rest of the book about how they weren’t able to help her. She exaggerates so much about how sick she was and how little she ate (had it been true she’d be dead), it just doesn’t evoke any compassion, just frustration. But mostly because she loves her self-diagnosed illness so much, she uses the phrase «MY anorexia» five times on every page of the book. It becomes super annoying.

English is the world language, except that most of the world doesn’t speak it - only one in five people does. Dorren calculates that to speak fluently with half of the world’s 7.4 billion people in their mother tongues, you would need to know no fewer than 20 languages. He sets out to explore these top 20 world languages, which range from the familiar (French, Spanish) to the surprising (Malay, Javanese, Bengali).

A lot of whining

Typical poor little rich girl story, whining about the smallest of problems, making it seem like the world should revolve around her, and complaining if it doesn’t. Not worth your time, I didn’t even finish it.
