No - I'd be too worried that it might turn them off her earlier brilliant works!

Would you ever listen to anything by Anne Rice again?

The Vampire Chronicles were amazing. I resisted reading them for SO long as I was not at all interested in the vampire genre, but I quickly became an Anne Rice fan, and converted many others! I also adore

Absolutely Faultless.

An art exhibition was based on this book recently, and it reminded me that it had been on my "must read" list for years, but I'd never gotten around to it. Even if you've read this book, I HIGHLY recommended you get the audio as well. The writing is amazing, the narration is flat out BRILLIANT. I also love the author's intro and explanations at the start as well. I can easily see how this story could have inspired so many artworks. I've never been moved to re-listen to a book before, but I know I will be listening to this one again in the future. No doubt more than once. It is worth it just to hear how the rabbits describe tractors!!

Only because...

... I paid for it. Is it wrong to listen to a whole story only for that reason?

It's the only thing that has gotten me through this book anyway. I hope for the sake of anyone who chooses to go on with the rest of the series that the author doesn't continue to remind you every couple of chapters that Gin looks at things with her grey eyes... Nobody ever describes the colour or their own eyes when they are looking at something. Let alone every single time. It's irritating. Self-absorbed.

There's a difference between a strong character, and a boastful, arrogant character. I found myself rolling my eyes over and over again when Gin was going on about her own endless awesomeness. Sorry, I found myself rolling my BLUE eyes over and over again... (You can see how that's irritating, yes?) Not to mention how often she repeats herself about where she keeps her five knives, how the spider runes ended up on her hands, and the exact same aspects of different characters' appearances . There's no need to remind your readers of trivial details over and over again.

Bad writing is even worse when it's read out loud.

Brilliant!

This book was randomly set out on a table at my local library, and I grabbed it on a whim. The trouble was, right from the start I couldn't put it down (and wasn't getting any work done because of it!) so I was very happy to find that it was available on audio so I could work AND listen, without having to take a pause in the story at all. I understand the tone that the narrator uses, yes he sounds a little forlorn and monotone at times, but it sets the scene perfectly - no doubt I would sound exactly the same in the same situation!

I was also attracted by the length of the story. I love it when something isn't over all too quickly, and it held my attention all the way. I realise it's not the first 'virus outbreak' story, but I found it to be completely set apart from all the others I've come across so far. I just HAD to find out what happened next, almost to distraction!

I'm so happy to hear that it's the first part of a trilogy, though I can't bear the thought of having to wait until 2012 and 2014 for the next two!

Highly, highly, highly recommended. I'd give it 10 stars if I could!
