Please warn -- vulgar language
Revisado: 01-11-23
These podcasters are not able to express themselves without constantly using f bombs. It's ironic that they are making fun of the low education level of the community they are describing when they sound like they would fit in perfectly in an uneducated crowd.
I am sure there are plenty who want to listen to this language, but most educated people I know would prefer not listening to a couple of grown men who still talk as if they're trying to impress their junior high buddies.

It would be great to see some type of warning or rating if a podcaster is not able to tell a story without constant f bombs.
I can tolerate one occasionally but would prefer to listen to people talk who know how to express themselves by using actual vocabulary instead of resorting to saying f#ck every single time they feel emotion. Unless you are trying to appeal to an audience of prepubescent boys...

Born in an era of rising violence, Black Elk killed his first man at Little Big Horn, witnessed the death of his second cousin Crazy Horse, and traveled to Europe with Buffalo Bill's Wild West show. Upon his return, he was swept up in the traditionalist Ghost Dance movement and shaken by the massacre at Wounded Knee. But Black Elk was not a warrior, and instead chose the path of a healer and holy man, motivated by a powerful prophetic vision that haunted and inspired him.

Gripping yet tragic
Revisado: 10-05-21
So much to ponder in the history of America. And every time I think we have learned from the past and are finally heading for peace, we find ourselves surrounded by extreme greed and selfishness that exhibits itself as people believing they are entitled to more than others for whatever reasons they conjure up.
We are all more alike than we are different. Black Elk was a visionary who was able to see the truth and work for peace but sadly failed because of the rampant greed of his day. Unfortunately we have not come very far. We will only live in peace when we are able to see all as truly equal.

Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

Didn't realize until the prologue that I was listening to a book by the same author who had written Nightingale which is one of my all-time-favorite audio books. But I wasn't surprised either because it's refreshing to hear meaningful tales featuring female characters in historical settings making an imprint on society through the ways they live in what appear to be ordinary lives. But this author seems to understand that it is actually the small acts lived by moral people in their everyday lives that shape the fabric of our society and make hope possible for each generation. I am grateful for her reminders.

Teacher Toolbox Essential
Revisado: 05-25-20
I purchased this book after attending a workshop at the Ron Clark Academy and truthfully feel that I benefitted as much from this book as I did from my 2 days at the workshop. It's hard to say if I would have been able to glean the same benefit from the book if I had not first been to the workshop and seen the incredible things they are able to accomplish with the amazing students there. Perhaps the workshop primed me to receive the information in a way that I could fully implement it, but I know it has definitely changed the way I communicate with others and it is well worth the small price I paid.
I did not have any kind of personal relationship with Kim Bearden before attending the workshop, but after attending the workshop and reading this book, Kim's willingness to make herself completely vulnerable left me feeling like I knew her as well as a close neighbor. That willingness to bare herself open is what makes this book so great. We have all made mistakes in our communication, but Kim allows us to learn from her mistakes and shows us how to take those errors and turn them around, so those we may have offended in the past can turn into some of our closest allies.
Whether it's the parent of a student, a co-worker, or even a daughter-in-law (or anyone in your life you may struggle to communicate with) you will learn from reading this great book!

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.

Fabulous Classic
Revisado: 05-25-18
Love this book and Victor Frankl's basic philosophy of life's meaning. So much better than the old style of therapy where you dredge up every detail of the past and try to blame your misery and bad attitude on everyone but never take responsibility for your own happiness.
Frankl instead says that we are born to suffer, and by doing it with dignity and taking charge of our own happiness, we find a sense of meaning in our lives. Bravo!
