Better than most and as good as any. Fry does a great job on the monumental complete works. His own contributions as forewords are pretty good as well.

Great piece of work.
Revisado: 02-09-22
Not stories exactly. More like descriptions of imagined characters, but hilariously funny and smart.
Cullum’s narration is pitch perfect whether the voice is New York sophisticate or backwoods rustic.
I thought it was simply perfect.

Historia
Ohio coaching legend Paul Brown said he wanted to create "the New York Yankees of pro football" when he assembled the Cleveland Browns from scratch in 1946. Despite his ambition, not even the future Hall of Fame coach could have foreseen ten league championship appearances and seven titles in the team's first ten years.

Unless you REALLY care about the Browns, don’t bother.
Revisado: 01-05-21
This is a collection of one-two line quips about past players and personalities. It might remind you of some names you’ve forgotten.
That very meager fare is marred by a performance that sounds like a sixth-grader trying to read a difficult book for the first time, with incorrect pronunciation of place names and of any words longer than three syllables.
Only for the seriously interested that have a lot of time and patience.

Historia
In Becoming Fluent, Richard Roberts and Roger Kreuz draw on insights from psychology and cognitive science to show that adults can master a foreign language if they bring to bear the skills and knowledge they have honed over a lifetime. Adults shouldn't try to learn as children do, they should learn like adults. Roberts and Kreuz report evidence that adults can learn new languages even more easily than children.

Useful material not helped by the reader.
Revisado: 09-18-20
I thought the material was interesting and, possibly, very useful. I’ll certainly keep lots of it in mind while I’m studying.
The presentation seemed to me very “professional”, each sentence interestingly inflected and rhythmic but not reflecting the point being made by the material. Listening to an author reading his/her own work kind of showed me this difference (e.g.: Michael Lewis reading his own stuff.)

Historia
Most children go through a dinosaur phase. Learning all the tongue-twisting names, picking favourites based on ferocity, armour, or sheer size. For many kids this love of ‘terrible lizards’ fizzles out at some point between starting and leaving primary school. All those fancy names slowly forgotten, no longer any need for a favourite. For all those child dino fanatics who didn’t grow up to become paleontologists, dinosaurs seem like something out of mythology. They are dragons, pictures in books, abstract, other, extinct.

Well worth a listen.

As the author, he’s made it intelligent and well-written. As narrator he’s made it entertaining. Highly recommended.

Great story. Terrible editing.

Every new voice is introduced with a biographical qualification and then reintroduced, every time, with the same, soon annoying, biographical qualification. Maybe the word processor automatically inserted it?
