Historia
The metropolis of New Crobuzon sprawls at the center of the world. Humans and mutants and arcane races brood in the gloom beneath its chimneys, where the river is sluggish with unnatural effluent and foundries pound into the night. For a thousand years, the Parliament and its brutal militias have ruled over a vast economy of workers and artists, spies and soldiers, magicians, crooks, and junkies. Now a stranger has arrived, with a pocketful of gold and an impossible demand. And something unthinkable is released.

Double Time
Revisado: 04-12-25
I'm not sure why, but the story didn't move fast enough. I like it better when I double timed it

Historia
In Navola, a city-state dominated by a handful of influential families, business is power, and power is everything. For generations, the di Regulai family—merchant bankers with a vast empire—has nurtured tendrils that stretch to the farthest reaches of the known world. And though they claim not to be political, their wealth has bought cities and toppled kingdoms. Soon, Davico di Regulai will be expected to take the reins of power from his father and demonstrate his mastery of the games of Navolese diplomacy. But in Navola, strange and ancient undercurrents lurk behind the gilt and grandeur.

Not bad, but not my thing.
Revisado: 12-31-24
The narration is great, but the story changes too much without the central character changing enough. I'm surprised by this because I enjoyed The Wind Up girl and his short story collection. However, I would have like the central character to start working with the eye and finding his own competence closer to the midpoint of the book instead of the final 1/8. Also, a little too much sexuality for my taste. I'm just putting that in in case some algorithm needs to know that for future recommendations.

Acclaimed science fiction luminary and a godfather of the genre’s remarkable offspring - cyberpunk - Bruce Sterling carries readers to a far-future universe where stunning achievements in human development have been tainted by a virulent outbreak of prejudice and hatred.

didn't grab me
Revisado: 11-18-24
I found myself listening at double time to get through it. Then I just skipped to the end.

Historia
No one knows exactly when it began or where it originated. A terrifying new plague is spreading like wildfire across the country, striking cities one by one: Boston, Detroit, Seattle. The doctors call it Draco Incendia Trychophyton. To everyone else it's Dragonscale, a highly contagious, deadly spore that marks its hosts with beautiful black and gold marks across their bodies - before causing them to burst into flames. Millions are infected; blazes erupt everywhere. There is no antidote. No one is safe.

Good Story but Noty Type
Revisado: 04-21-24
I can't say anything was wrong with the story or it's performance. it's just not the kind of story I like son I ended up triple-and-a-half timing the second part and then scrubbing through the chapters just to get to the end.
