Historia
The great adventure story tells of Odysseus, a veteran of the Trojan War, who - through a landscape peopled with monsters, sea nymphs, evil enchantresses, and vengeful gods - makes his tortuous way home to his faithful wife, Penelope. Shipwrecked numerous times, faced with apparently insurmountable obstacles, offered the temptations of ease, comfort, and even immortality, Odysseus remains steadfast and determined. Themes of courage and perseverance, fidelity and fortitude.

In the kingdom of the dead
Revisado: 12-01-14
I agree with others about the excellence of the translation and the reading by Ian McKellen. As for the recording, I think I have an explanation for the deeper voice and slower pace of one section of it. This section is the famous Book 11, in which Odysseus visits the kingdom of the dead and speaks with its denizens. I think the special voice effects, which were probably intended by the producers of the recording, are meant to match the funereal subject matter. I'm not sure if this effort entirely works, but it's probably not a glitch in the recording process.

Wodehouse introduces us once again to the "wonder butler" Jeeves, who, as usual is able to solve any and all of Bertie Wooster's endless problems with ease and finesse. And he also introduces us to a character not dissimilar to Bertie . . . by name of Reggie. Such fun to follow Jeeves in the hijinks!

Too bad about the narration
Revisado: 12-31-13
These stories are delightful, but the narrator's mannerisms are indeed distracting--especially the ridiculously rolled r's. I finally gave up on the audio, even though I love the stories.

Historia
Philip Roth presents a vivid portrait of an innocent man being swept away by a current of conflict and violence in his own backyard - a story that is as much about loving America as it is hating it. Seymour "Swede" Levov, a legendary high school athlete, a devoted family man, a hard worker, and the prosperous heir of his father's Newark glove factory comes of age in thriving, triumphant postwar America. But everything he loves is lost when the country begins to run amok in the turbulent 1960s. Not even a most private, well-intentioned citizen, it seems, gets to sidestep the sweep of history. American Pastoral is the story of a fortunate American's rise and fall ... a strong, confident man, a master of social equilibrium, overwhelmed by the forces of social disorder. For the Swede is not allowed to stay forever blissful living out life in rural Old Rimrock in his 170 year-old stone farmhouse with his pretty wife (his college sweetheart and Miss New Jersey of 1949) and his lively albeit precocious daughter, the apple of his eye ... that is until she grows up to become a revolutionary terrorist.

Wonderful read of a great novel
Revisado: 10-29-13
The novel is a masterpiece, and the reader is wonderful.I had read some of Philip Roth's early books in the sixties and seventies, but had no idea that he'd developed into a novelist of such power. And I'm not sure I've ever heard a reader who so superbly captured the feel of a book. There's something elegaic about Silver's New Jersey-accented voice as he inhabits Roth's narrator. One of the best things I have ever heard or listened to.

Historia
"All the world's a stage...." In the enchanted forest of Arden, everyone has their way. Sins are forgiven, quarrels are resolved, and love rules over all. And - just as the author liked it - the frolic of clowns and comedy includes provocative insight into nature versus society and into humanity itself. Follow Orlando, Celia, Rosalind, and Touchstone the Clown from court to forest in this play that features disguised princesses, an unjustly deposed ruler, and a handsome leading couple. Actors Vanessa Redgrave (Rosalind) and Keith Michell (Orlando) head the cast of celebrity performers in this Shakespearean romp of mischief, intrigue, and surprise.

Enchanting production
Revisado: 09-25-13
This production is first-rate. Vanessa Redgrave is superb as Rosalind, Shakespeare's greatest comic heroine, and the supporting is great as well, especially the actors who play Touchstone and Jaques. My only complaint is that sometimes Redgrave is a bit hard to hear, since she tends to deliver Rosalind's sly innuendos sotto voce.

Winner of the 1961 Hugo Award for Best Novel and widely considered one of the most accomplished, powerful, and enduring classics of modern speculative fiction, Walter M. Miller’s A Canticle for Leibowitz is a true landmark of 20th-century literature—a chilling and still-provocative look at a postapocalyptic future.

Great novel, somewhat strange reading
Revisado: 09-03-12
This is one of the classic modern science fiction novels, and it lends itself well to the audiobook format, but the reader has made some strange choices.Particularly egregious is his rendering of Thon Taddeo, who is supposed to be a cultured, ironic Renaissance man with the intelligence of an Einstein or a Leonardo da Vinci. The reader makes him sound like Big Daddy in Cat On a Hot Tin Roof or the the villainous Southern warden in a prison movie. What was he thinking of?
