Historia
Stephanie Kelton's brilliant exploration of modern monetary theory (MMT) dramatically changes our understanding of how we can best deal with crucial issues ranging from poverty and inequality to creating jobs, expanding health care coverage, climate change, and building resilient infrastructure. Any ambitious proposal, however, inevitably runs into the buzz saw of how to find the money to pay for it, rooted in myths about deficits that are hobbling us as a country.

Pretty good.

I actually disagree with the author’s conclusions about the usefulness of MMT. I think we should go back to the gold standard or something similar. But the author correctly illustrates the actual way our monetary system works today. Which is refreshing. Her proposed solution, however, puts more money and power in the hands of the same people who she generally accuses of creating our modern “deficits”.
Accurate assessment of the problem…somewhat naive solutions. I enjoyed the book.

Historia
When Clarence Thomas joined the Supreme Court in 1991, he found with dismay that it was interpreting a very different Constitution from the one the framers had written - the one that had established a federal government manned by the people's own elected representatives, charged with protecting citizens' inborn rights while leaving them free to work out their individual happiness themselves, in their families, communities, and states.

Worth the time

Great summary of the life and work of Clarence Thomas. Love the outlines and explanations of each of his court opinions, as well as the fleshing out of the principles he stands on.
