Historia
During the blizzard of 1978, a woman is discovered face down at the edge of her Delaware estate, a dog half-dead by her side. Nearby, a CIA officer lies buried under two feet of snow. Their secret meeting—sabotaged. When Emma Quinn gets a call in her Manhattan apartment—your grandmother, found dead—she has no reason to suspect foul play. But she is drawn into an intrigue that harks back to the beginnings of the Cold War—and forced to confront the truth about her family and history as we know it.

Fascinating read!

I loved this book! Not only was I on the edge of my seat, trying to figure out what was going to happen next with the fictional characters, I was also intrigued with the non-fictional story line. I knew little to nothing about this history. A+ for this historical fiction novel!

Historia
The Irish-American story, with all its twists and triumphs, is told through the improbable life of one man. A dashing young orator during the Great Famine of the 1840s, in which a million of his Irish countrymen died, Thomas Francis Meagher led a failed uprising against British rule, for which he was banished to a Tasmanian prison colony. He escaped and six months later was heralded in the streets of New York - the revolutionary hero, back from the dead, at the dawn of the great Irish immigration to America.

A story not to be matched.
Revisado: 09-21-16
This book is an exquisite and concise history of not only Thomas Francis Meagher but of Ireland's struggle against the brutal forces of England for hundreds of years, the Irish in America, the Irish Brigade during the Civil War (and the Civil War itself) and the movement of Americans westward. I cannot recommend this book enough to both lovers of Ireland and lovers of history. The impact this man had on three continents and on history itself can not be overstated.

Historia
This transcendent story follows four college friends who move to New York City, buoyed by ambition: Willem, an aspiring actor; JB, an artist; Malcolm, an architect; and, at the center, Jude, a withdrawn, brilliant attorney haunted by an unspeakable past. Through decades of shared and separate lives, Jude’s suffering - and its impact on those who love him - raises questions about the limits of human endurance, the possibility for redemption, and the meaning of friendship.
