I'm so glad Luna got her own story because she's such a fun, fabulous character. And while I did NOT like Jean-Pierre for the first half of the book, I came around to the idea of him by the end.

I also learned a lot about trans men- psychologically & biologically, which was super interesting to delve into.

TJ Alexander wrote another fun, steamy romance celebrating trans joy and I can't wait for more of their books ♡

I just finished reading (well listening to the audiobook version) of Chef's Kiss and it's fucking awesome ♡

It's sweet and fun and romantical, but also a sharp view into the world of bs that the LGBTQ community have to deal with every day.
All the characters feel like real, solid people and while some I want to punch in the face, others I want to take out for a beer & a chat.

Go get a copy and see if you can put it down long enough to sleep or eat or do boring shit like work. Or get the audiobook & have the best of both worlds, like I did ♡

The story was cute and refreshing for a romance novel. There were a good amount of laugh out loud moments & I liked both main characters.

My only negative comment is that the male actor's version of the female lead's voice was awful. High & whiny sounding, it pulled me out of the story every time. It's a super minor quibble, and I'm not sure how it could have been done better. The actors all did great jobs otherwise.

I love Drew Hayes. I think he's an amazing storyteller, and the few quibbles I have could have been fixed with a better editor. (ending every spoken sentenced with "X said" or "X quipped". Also, let's all leave the word 'ample' to the cheap romance novels.

The narrarator however is not good. Yes he uses distinct voices for different characters, which I appreciate. But he reads SOOOOO SLOWLY that I had to speed him up to 1.3x to not want to slap someone.

This was a terrible adaptation. I don't blame the actors- they all did a fine job, but this is NOT the Unseen Academicals story. Whoever adapted this should be ashamed of themselves for screwing up all these characters.

Let me start by saying I love Mary Roach's books. She is a genius at presenting facts and research in entertaining & relatable ways. I think she's witty and her books Stiff, Bonk, Grunt, Gulp are all great & worth re-reads.

This is NOT that kind of Mary Roach book. This is a collection of articles that were published in Reader's Digest in (I'm guessing) the late 90s.

Once you start listening, you hear the familiar casual sexism and gender generalizations that the person who wrote "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" banked on.

If you're 60-90 years old and think those "Maxine" comics about her boobs being down by her knees is hilarious, buy the book.

If you're tired of gross over-generalizations and are more familiar with teaching your elders how to use the internet than being the person who can't figure out self-checkout at the grocery store, you're going to want to pass.

The only thing I dislike about Scalzi as a writer is his incessant use of "(person's name) said" for almost every sentence in a dialogue. When you're reading his books, your eyes can flit over it & ignore it for the most part, but it becomes obvious when listening to audiobooks.

Other narrarators worked around it as best they could, but this narrarator emphasized it. It made it really hard to enjoy the story.
