Berlin, 1942. The Gestapo arrest 18-year-old Bert Lewyn and his parents, sending the latter to their deaths and Bert to work in a factory making guns for the Nazi war effort. Miraculously tipped off the morning the Gestapo round up all the Jews who work in the factories, Bert goes underground. He finds shelter sometimes with compassionate civilians, sometimes with people who find his skills useful and sometimes in the cellars of bombed-out buildings.

Unfortunately I didn’t think the vocalist held my attention. It was way too quietly recorded and I struggled to understand certain sentences , because of that I had to Rewind often ... losing the thread of the story .
But I love Francine Rivers .

This was a superb Covid 19 Book !
I lost myself in a bygone era , as though I was watching and part of every scene in every story . I felt myself travel through the searing emotional traumas , waiting for a rightful judgement ,on the horrors that were going on behind closed doors !!!!
EXCELLENT ALL ROUND . It’s still going on Today .... not always behind CLOSED DOORS.

What a way to learn about History. I feel as if they were my family’s relatives that I was learning about !!!!
In fact I did have an uncle that married into our family from Poland and changed his surname to Frazier from Frosch .... we haven’t got any more details than that as history dies if not recorded !
Excellent Book. I cried numerous times at the horrors they had to endure .
