What an ending!

It was enjoyable from the getgo. I like first contact books and this one did not let me down. Ray Porter is one of my favorites.

Big dose of Creationist religion.

The book has a great SF story. The performer was not to my liking. I have listened to many Audible titles and I know what I like. Having said that I would have gladly listened to the whole thing, BUT...... One of the characters is a creationist and for my money that is a buzz kill. I don’t care what an author believes in but I am not going to spend my good money listening to a book that talks it up. I am not much on religion and especially one that believes the earth is 6000 or so years old. I am crossing this author off my list.

For my money, the story had no plot and was fraught with F word. I like action in my space operas and it was lacking. The only reason I bought it was Will Wheaton. I had enough by the half way point and deleted it.

I like these apocalypse books and this was a good one. Characters were believable and the story flowed nicely. It was a good ending also.

Wasn’t what I had hoped

I would have liked a lot more SF. That is why I chose it. The main reason it was tough to get through was my preoccupation with the way Mr. Bray pronounced words like hadn’t, couldn’t, didn’t, wouldn’t. It drove me nuts. I am willing to say that it is my problem, not his, but those words were not said correctly. It was like hearing Bush2 say nuc-u-ler. I winced whenever he said any of them.

Thoroughly Enjoyed It

I like long books so I took a chance on this one. I really liked the idea of an ensemble of narrators. The book kept my interest the entire time and that is all I ask for. I recommend it.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A little action here and there instead of a hum drum read with a good ending would have helped, but my major problem was the reader.
I like a British accent as well as the next person. This was like listening to ' Enri ' Iggins sister perform. For me, the cockney heavy accent was really hard to get past. I was tempted to stop and return it a couple of times.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The British accent was way over the top for an American listener.

I should have suspected going in that it was going to be too tame for a zombie book. I think it billed itself that way. My bad.

Great listen

I throughly enjoyed all 4 books. The story was well written with plenty of action. The performance was top notch. I hate to see it go. Right now I am going to see what else Mr. Bray has narrated. Great voice and delivery. Kudos to all.
